Coloring Mathematics.

I am posting some quotes on Mathematics by some Great Minds.

  • 'In these days of conflict between ancient and modern studies; there must surely be something to be said for a study which did not begin with Pythagoras and will not end with Einstein; but is the oldest and the youngest.'-G.H Hardy

  • 'In most sciences one generation tears down what another has built and what one has established another undoes. In Mathematics alone each generation builds a new story to the old structure.'-Herman Hankel

  • 'Mathematics is the Queen of Sciences and Arithmetic is the Queen of Mathematics.'- Gauss

  • 'Mathematics is both the queen and the hand-maiden of all sciences'- E.T .Bell

  • 'There is no permanent place in the world for ugly mathematics ... .It may be very hard to define mathematical beauty but that is just as true of beauty of any kind, we may not know quite what we mean by a beautiful poem, but that does not prevent us from recognizing one when we read it'-G.H Hardy

  • 'Proofs are to Mathematics what calligraphy is to poetry.Mathematical works do consist of proofs just as poems do consist of characters.'-Vladimir Arnold

  • 'There are few things which we know which are not capable of mathematical reasoning and when these can not, it is a sign that our knowledge of them is very small and confused and where a mathematical reasoning can be had, it is as great a folly to make use of another, as to grope for a thing in the dark when you have a candle stick'

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas - Albert Einstein

Mathematics knows no races or geographic boundaries; for mathematics, the cultural world is one country - David Hilbert
Even though we are scattered across the world, we are united by our love and understanding of mathematics.

I am new to brilliant. Not 'very' new.You are doing a great job @Calvin Lin .I know I m none to judge anyone.I am not judging though.I personally appreciate the work your are doing -binding the community of all Mathematics lovers, posting articles in wiki, sharing problems which are beneficial or are there to surface some crucial point...

Just for curiosity sake-Are you a Mathematician ?

Recently brilliant has introduced 'Wiki'.Such a feature is going to benefit infinite number of people.I hope we will see more of such useful feature in future.

Physical reality may very well start with mathematical reality. Physicist Chen Ning Yang relates his conversation with Shiing Shen Chern, a chinese mathematician, in 1975, "I told him I had finally learned....the beauty of fiber-bundle theory and the profound Chern-Weil theorem. I said I found it amazing that gauge fields are exactly connections on fiber bundles, which the mathematicians developed without reference to the physical world. I added, 'This i s both thrilling and puzzling, since you mathematicians dreamed up these concepts out of nowhere.' He immediately protested, 'No, no. These concepts were not dreamed up. They were natural and real.'"

Really some still think that Mathematics is only abstract. But even Galileo said that Maths was real, "The universe cannot be read until we have learnt the language and become familiar with the characters in which it is written. It is written in mathematical language, and the letters are triangles, circles and other geometrical figures, without which means it is humanly impossible to comprehend a single word."
