  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

@brian charlesworth Congratulations for this streak! I always found your Geometry questions super awesome! "A tight fit" was the first Level 5 problem I solved! It was always a superb experience to solve your questions.

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoy solving my geometry questions. As I recall, "A tight fit" was the first of my many "fitting circles in between random curves" problems. They're a bit weird, I suppose, but they each pose a slightly different challenge.

Congratulations :D on killing problems all the year :D, You should try fitting ellipse between the curves :D. this might be my last day on this site cauz I will be busy in JEE prep.

@Krishna Sharma Thanks! I'll try your suggestion of fitting an ellipse, (or two), but the calculations may get messy. Good luck with your JEE prep. :)

Brian Charlesworth - 6 years, 4 months ago

Exactly! And I love all of them. Just curious, was it a set goal or it just happened?

@Pranjal Jain It wasn't really a goal, but as the streak got longer I didn't want to break it, so I always made sure I'd answer a question, even a simple one, before going to bed. I can't keep it up forever, but I am glad that I made it to a full year. :)

Congratulations Brian Sir, as evident from your streak of 1 year it will just be a matter of time before you become the one with the highest points on Brilliant .

Here's a pic of my leader board :

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 4 months ago

Thank you megh choksi for taking out time to post your leaderboard's pic . This week Jon Haussmann will definitely beat me and here's why :

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 4 months ago

Wow! So many points in one month. At this rate you'll pass Jon by the end of 2015. :)

Brian Charlesworth - 6 years, 4 months ago

@Brian Charlesworth Frankly , I don't think that I can even compare to Jon Haussmann . But thanks sir, don't know but maybe I can touch 800,000 by the end of this year .

P.S. Looking up to you, now even I want to create and maintain atleast a 1 year streak .

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 4 months ago

Thanks, Azhaghu. I hadn't looked at the points chart for a long time. Jon Haussmann is uncatchable, but my hope is to some day post a question that not even he can answer. :)

Congrats Brian ^_^ You are the most addicted person to Brilliant.org. And you got a new nick name 'The King Math'

bow before your king

Soumo Mukherjee - 6 years, 4 months ago

Thanks again. I may be addicted, but Marios Patsios has a 488-day streak going, so I'm not the most addicted. :) As for "The King Math", I would bestow that honor to Jon Haussmann, aka The Annihilator, or to Michael Mendrin, aka Mr. Mathopedia, or even to any number of the amazing members who participate on this site.

Thanks, Megh!! I really appreciate this, fireworks and all. This is a great community to be part of, and every day I learn something new, such as the fact that 365365 is such a beautiful number. :)

Brian Charlesworth - 6 years, 4 months ago

Which concept in math or physics is most beautiful according to you(please say except geometry)

U Z - 6 years, 4 months ago

Well, Euler's formula eix=cos(x)+isin(x)e^{ix} = \cos(x) + i*\sin(x) is probably the most beautiful (and important) in mathematics, and in physics the honor might go to Einstein's field equations. Gödel's Completeness/Incompleteness Theorems are mind-blowing in their significance as well. If you have the time, I would recommend "Gödel, Escher, Bach" by Douglas Hofstadter as an excellent overview.

Hey! Just curious.. Is that tag #brain\color{#D61F06}{brain}charlesworth intentional?

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 4 months ago

Let it be there , first I made a mistake in writing name , but this suits the man

U Z - 6 years, 4 months ago

@U Z Oh! A correct mistake! 😀

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 4 months ago

@U Z Haha. Normally when my name is misspelled there is a "y" in place of the "i", but the (unintentional) "brain" misspelling is quite common too. :) There are so many brainy people on Brilliant: I feel quite humbled by all the talent on here. You're all well ahead of where I was at your age, (and probably ahead of me now, for that matter). Keep it up and do good things with your talent. :)

Hi, I heard that you are a moderator here on Brilliant so can you please tell me who are the people with the most number of points ?

Thanks for the same .

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 4 months ago

Yes! I am a moderator. But we don't have this much access. We just edit questions for LaTeX and other problems, make problems popular, and report wrong answers. But according to my experience, Jon Haussman must be the highest. 300,000+ club includes @brian charlesworth @Sharky Kesa @Trevor B. @Pi Han Goh @Mardokay Mosazghi
