Cyclic Squares

Imgur Imgur

Hi everyone!

Zong Zhang and I decided to create a Youtube channel a while ago. We teach math stuff, and do examples from various math competitions (i.e AIME). Since we have made a decent amount of videos now, I think it's time to publicize a little.

We're still newbies at this stuff, so don't bash us please! Instead, feel free to give helpful suggestions.

It's been a month, and as you can see we have started some trends: namely, MAA problems, general math knowledge/formula problems, and problems made by me. Feel free to suggest more groups if you have any good ideas!

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

The AIME 1 2000 Problem 9 for me, by far. Such an elegant ending.

I watched every single video on your channel and was really impressed! I really like how you explain the problems and prove every single bit of them, even when it's obvious. You're doing beyond amazing if you're beginners at this as you mentioned, so really well done!

Therefore, you have one more subscriber. :)

As for suggestions:

(1) You might want to try to speak louder and more clearly. It will sound way more professional and might appeal to more people.

(2) In addition to (1), you might want to get a new microphone! It seems that you guys are going to take this pretty seriously, so why not get a better mic to improve your quality?

(3) If you have time, try to record the solutions several times so you do not have words crossed over in them! It'd look way more fancy. :)

Other than these aesthetic points (which are of no relevance to your channel whatsoever, it just looks/sounds better with them) you're channel rocks in my opinion!

Also, I have a few questions for you guys:

Will there ever be viewer-featured problems (or generally harder problems viewers might ask you to elaborate)?

Are you using your mouse to write everything down? If so, how on earth do you manage? I've tried that hundreds of times and I can't even write my name down properly. :(

Keep up the good work guys!

I agree with this point; maybe you could use a whiteboard instead. @Daniel Liu , @Zong Zhang , what do you guys think?

So I use a drawing tablet. Daniel manages with his mouse. So basically, either get a tablet, or you just need some practice.

Zong Zhang - 6 years, 9 months ago

Yea, I manage with a mouse. It's worth it to practice writing with a mouse, with our lives being affected more and more by technology.

@Daniel Liu Wow, impressive! Any tips on how I can get better?

@Ivan Sekovanić To be honest, I didn't really have any tricks. I didn't even practice that much; anyways my mouse handwriting is terrible. The best advice I can give is to practice. Start by writing big letters and then downsize it as you practice.

I'm Definitely going to subscribe!
