Day 3 @ Vijyoshi Camp (Officially day 1)

Hello friends, This was the first day of camp officially. It was really nice. You would surely love to read my experience and questions and notes based on new learning (Coming up in following week).

So the day started with inaugural ceremony followed by breakfast.

After that we had Nobel laureate in Physics (1987), Dr. J. Georg. Bednorz for a lecture on "The Fascination of Science:Dreaming allowed?". It was really an awesome feeling to hear him on super conductors. (His theory for which he got Nobel was on high temperature super conductors.)

Following him was L. S. Shashidhara from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune who gave a short introduction of "Evolution of Human Cognition" showing some videos. It was probably the first time I loved biology!!

After that we had lunch followed by Asok Kumar Mallik from IIEST for summarizing "Mathemagical black holes, chaos and fractals". Again an awesome lecture! After all MATHS!!

Tea was served before a lecture on "From pure mathematics tomathematical identification of impurities" by Prof. Greggery T. Bazzard from Purdue University, US.

Finally Prof T.D.P. Stack from Stanford university delivered a lecture on "Activation of Dioxygen andSubstrate Hydroxylation atSimple Copper Complexes : Biological Insights" with dinner following it.

There was a nice interaction between students and teachers after each lecture.

Here are the following days.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

What was your main takeaway from the first day? What were things that a speaker said, which you will remember for the rest of your life?

Being kiddish, "waking up at 6 AM is not a job for me" is what I confirmed!!

Well, most important thing I got there was experience as I came across people from complete India. Dr. Bednorz also told about his early life and that how he failed many times but then succeed. That was really motivating.
