Does God Exist?

Since Brilliant is a community of Brilliant people with outstanding Brilliance,I wanted to ask a question which has been debated.Although it not a Science or Math question but still one of the mysteries which remain unsolved and disputed.Even Sir Hawking and Einstein stated their views regarding this question.Here the short question follows: DOES GOD EXIST? Please be free and frank with your ideas.

I think the better question is, "Why do people keep asking if God exists?"

But Brian is on point, answering that question depends on the definition of God. Everybody has an opinion about what God is, including even Einstein, but I believe that most people will find Einstein's idea of what God is difficult to understand. So, what does it mean when Einstein says he believes in a "god"? And if he says he believes in a god, does that mean he believes that Yahweh as described in the biblical Old Testament is a literal fact, as to his character and all the things he has said and done? I do not believe that saying that I believe in a god means that I must accept all the religious and cultural baggage that comes with it.

I'm not being facetious, as I often revisit this question, but .... what is the definition of God we are working with here? We could have a definition that renders any "proof" of God's existence meaningless. Also, would it suffice to prove that God can exist, without actually providing a proof of existence? At least this would (partially) address the argument for atheism. I've always felt that the only logical option is agnosticism, but some consider this to be a cop-out, i.e., that one can't make up one's mind. I would counter that criticism with the observation that we do not live in a strictly "binary" universe, and thus having a belief system that acknowledges that some things are fundamentally unknowable is a perfectly valid and rational option. We can choose to be subjective or objective; neither is "better" than the other, as we would then have to agree on a metric for grading such a choice, which would bring us back to the initial question.

@Siddharth Singh You've asked a potentially volatile question, so while I will reshare it, I do so with some reservations. However, I believe that Brilliantians are generally a fairly decorous bunch, so I think a civil dialogue is entirely possible, and likely. Who knows; perhaps someone will produce a convincing mathematical argument. :)

I don't believe in any religion, or gods prescribed by any particular religion. In my opinion, I believe in "Energy" and thus I claim that the "Energy" present all around us is the only God :)

It is, I would say, a question that rises a fight between science and religion. The question that god exists is quite mystical, as the famous quote goes " where science fails god arises".

This has been one of the conspiracies that is being discussed and reaserched on in one of the world,s greatest science center - CERN.

The Large Hadron Collider(LHC), is the world's biggest machine that is working to find out how the universe was created.

There had been new inventions of various fields of science recently which deal with such questions, one that's becoming popular is the noetic science, which finds if Human's are inter connected.

I would recommend you to read Dan Brown's novels which debate on this topic. . . . . . . . . .

I think that this is a sensitive topic that has been, more often than not, the cause of many disputes. So being free and frank are quite out of the question. Anyone who has to say anything about this has to tread lightly. It's very easy for anyone to rub others the wrong way. Many have tried to prove it in the past and have come short. We might also not live long enough before the question is answered in a logical way. Many others have decided to accept the existence of god and have led their lives based on a code of some sort that pertains to their religion. The others who are remaining, myself included, have decided to let things be and to go on with life. The question that I've found very amusing to look at, mainly because of the way it's been phrased, is this: For thousands of years, humans have been believing that God created man. But what if in reality, it's the other way around?

Well, what is god? Some think creators of universe, others think of them as maybe some kind of extra terrestial species responsible for human creation.

I think god is the energy that keeps universe "running" in the state it is. How did big bang occur? What was before it? What caused it to explode? Until science found a satisfactory answer the theory of God is the best answer. he may or may not be human-like shown in mythology but he exists- as laws of physics god can't be ignored. the day we find an answer to this would be the day we get all the knowledge and understanding of the universe. The day we all are waiting for!!! But i do believe in god.

According to my Maths sir god is y=f(x) which means that what we input we get as output.The kind of work we do gives the output like if we treat others nicely we will also get nice behaviour in return although there is one creator who created everything from animals,nature to human being ,all the life cycle etc.But the mystery continues......

God is the one who has created us not divided on religions or regions .Even we get its hint in parnormal science because if evil is there god will always exist.So I think yes god exists and is the creator not the divider

The presence of God is felt. He is divine and filled with positive vibes. Never a single genuine prayer is left unheard. He's our guide and we must cease to insist on proving his presence, rather should feel him around us, within us.

Relieving tensions and sorrows on him, he helps initiate peace. Doing good deeds gets us closer to him.

Many things cannot be seen but are present, always.
