Electricity and Magnetism self-study resources

Does anyone know any good sites where I can study electricity and magnetism in a structured way? I'm currently in level 3 physics and I find the mechanics problems very easy, but the Electricity and Magnetism problems are very hard for me because I'm not learning them in school physics for another month. I've tried learning just the material needed to solve the question, but I think a wider understanding of the subject would help instead of going 'formula-hunting' on google.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

I use MIT Opencourseware. For the intro physics courses they have basically the whole course available. You can get videos of the lectures, all the homework and tests, reading lists etc...You still have to enforce your own structure.

Their physics page is: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/physics/

A few weeks ago there was a thread started to brainstorm good physics book suggestions for independent learning. That probably isn't what you are looking for, because you probably already have a book for school and want a website with more structure and guidance than marching ahead through a book alone. I think most of those book suggestions were for mechanics as well. Online formula hunting is not a great way to learn something for the first time. However if that is what you have to do, I bet it would be more fun on youtube than google.

If you do want a text, here's a free one which is pretty comprehensive and pretty well written is . While you might already have a text that covers much of this material, this text is also integrated with the Phet demos, which are online labs and simulations that help explain material. Hence there's a little more ability to be self-guided than one might get in an ordinary text.

I just downloaded it and browsed through, and it covers so much! Thank you! I find books more helpful than videos where the professors either talk too slowly or too fast.
