  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Cheating through multiple accounts is not allowed on Brilliant for all of the reasons many of you have already pointed out.

  • They allow people to unfairly game the points exchange.
  • They allow you to falsely represent yourself.
  • It is extremely dishonorable.
  • It violates the point of the website, which is to engage your critical thought, and not your ability to enter many answers till you get the right one.

As Abhishek has pointed out, we have many ways of catching cheaters, however we prefer to assume our user's are innocent until proven guilty, as opposed to constantly looking for cheaters.

In the past we have taken action against identified cheaters and will investigate the cases mentioned. In the future we would prefer to handle this discreetly. There are many public emails you can use to contact the staff at Brilliant. Please email me at discussions@brilliant.org, the math team at mathematics@brilliant.org, or support@brilliant.org to report a suspected cheater.

I thought that India meant serenity and calmness. You are anything but calm. Pardon my language, but why do you give a damn about who has 500 account and who has 501? This is just a harmless site meant for fun and learning not cut-throat competition. If the authorities want they can easily track IP address and find out the culprits in a jiffy; its not even 2 pages of code! But they are more interested in the teaching and learning experience not play James Bond. So shut up and solve problems quietly, the authorities will do their work.

Not in peace.

AD.

Well said man.

Sambit Senapati - 8 years, 3 months ago

i agree, but i think it does harm to someone, though I can't put my finger to it.

consider the person buying a book, and then exchanging the book for something else on amazon (its possible).

Could be a gun, so it'll lead to terrorism XD

Harshit Kapur - 8 years, 3 months ago

if the person really wanted to spread terrorism i guess this is the most idiotic way of doing so :P

Rohan Singh - 8 years, 3 months ago

@Rohan Singh agreed. his to-do list would look like -

1) learn math 2) learn more math 3) learn even more math 4) go back to step 1) 5) exchange points for a book, and then book for [insert item here].

:)

Harshit Kapur - 8 years, 3 months ago

I'd like to address to Pradeep, Shankar Ram, and Sriram. You guys probably know each other. Just open a gmail group chat fight within yourselves. Please do not spoil the peace of this community. This discussion is not worth 50 comments.

Nishanth Hegde - 8 years, 3 months ago

yes you are right

Sri Venkata Vivek Dhulipala - 8 years, 3 months ago

Be quite everyone, let them do anything they want, but original happiness is only achieved when you do everything by yourself and truly if they cheat they will never get any heart touching and proud feeling if they solve all the problems on Brilliant. But if you are going on a correct path, keep going on as you will rock in future and they will lose and also frustrate at some point..So chill and enjoy problem solving.....And i also agree with Abhishek ...If brilliant wanted to do so than it would had done much earlier...But they don't want to spoil this beautiful environment..So continue......problem solving.

alpha beta - 8 years, 3 months ago

I haven't wished that I should get all answers correct. I wanted to do more problems in brilliant. You first see that you don't like like this without knowing what they wanted to do.

A Former Brilliant Member - 8 years, 3 months ago

oh come on.... isn't there anyone left in india who minds his own business just stop worrying about what others are upto

Rohan Singh - 8 years, 3 months ago

the discussion below reminds me of youtube comments...

Alan Liang - 8 years, 3 months ago

That disheartening moment when I see this thread in the top discussions.....

Soham Chanda - 8 years, 3 months ago

So i would request Brilliant staff to close this discussion otherwise these three fellows will be on fight even at there home and this may create a big dispute between them.....

alpha beta - 8 years, 3 months ago

What if people are using same internet on same wifi?

patel kishan - 8 years, 3 months ago

What about shankar ram!!!! He asks answers from his friends and put the answer in brilliant. Even he doesn't asks how he did!! What does brilliant say about this.

A Former Brilliant Member - 8 years, 3 months ago

yes,one sincere brilliant user had tried hard and have found that shankar ram even has a fake account(see ram prakash 's comment)

Pradeep Ravichandran - 8 years, 3 months ago

I agree that I have 3 accounts. I wanted to solve more problems in a week. I want to solve problems from lower level to higher level. If brilliant thinks that I am cheating, then it can stop awarding points for the other two accounts and remove the points which I have scored. It can also reduce the number of times I can answer in each account from 3 to 1.

A Former Brilliant Member - 8 years, 3 months ago

All I would like is to remove this post by a brilliant staff.

A Former Brilliant Member - 8 years, 3 months ago

you have cheated

A Former Brilliant Member - 8 years, 3 months ago

This is not such a descent issue to be discussed in this precious website. The kindly request of all brilliant users, including me,is delete this discussion and stop spoiling the reputation of this precious website. This is the discussion home where sums are to be discussed are not all such silly matters.I KINDLY REQUEST ALL THE VIOLATERS NOT TO MISUSE THIS WEBSITE BY HAVING MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS OR USING ANY UNFAIR MEANS TO ANSWER.

Ryan Joshua cameltor - 8 years, 3 months ago

My sincere request.....Please close this discussion as soon as possible.

Ashwin Venkatraman - 8 years, 3 months ago

I think it's really immature and I dare say "cheap" to argue in such a manner publicly. For such problems I think users should mail their query to brilliant directly instead of discussing it in such a manner here. I too request this discussion to be locked/deleted.

Sambit Senapati - 8 years, 3 months ago

they are going to face serious offences and are going to get blocked for sure.

arun a - 8 years, 3 months ago

Calvin sir and other staffs of Brilliant, this discussion clearly makes us understand that you and other staff are being cheated. Take serious action against these fellows such that Brilliant does not have any violators in it.

sunny v - 8 years, 3 months ago

Pradeep Ravichandran - 8 years, 3 months ago

Sri Venkata Vivek Dhulipala - 8 years, 3 months ago

no,what he is telling is stupidly rubbish, that is another pradeep.i even don't know him....he asked answer from me but i refused to tell him....see this what can he say for this...

Pradeep Ravichandran - 8 years, 3 months ago

calvin sir please check this and take appropriate action against these two

shankar ram kasiviswanathan - 8 years, 3 months ago

hey pradeep then why are you creating 2 or 3 fake accounts and using them. answer me this

shankar ram kasiviswanathan - 8 years, 3 months ago
