Feature Requests

Please reshare this note so that it can reach the staff! :D

This note serves as a summary of all the feature requests (as well as some of my own). If implemented, these improvements will benefit the Brilliant community tremendously.

11. Ability to view one's own problems and notes

It would be very useful to implement this feature. I find it difficult to access the problems and notes which I have posted a few months ago. (There was no 'save' function back then). This would allow more experienced members to create sets which contain some of their older problems.

22. Improvements to 'Started problems'

It is very difficult to scroll through started problems; I probably have a few thousand entries there. I suggest that the problems be classified according to topic and date (I'm not sure how, this is left to the staff).

33. Notifications

This, by far, has been the most requested feature. Most people use their email for work, and I find it very clumsy to have hundreds of emails per day (Yes, I really do receive that many!) and having to read through them. Think about it: If I receive 100 emails per day, how many would, say, Calvin receive? @Calvin Lin --> mentioning Calvin wouldn't work as Calvin probably has no time to read through the many emails that he receives.

It would be hugely beneficial to create some sort of notifications tab that allows one to see their new followers, recently favourited and reshared problems/notes and mentions (just like what we receive in our emails, but neatly organised under tabs), so that one can choose whether he/she wants to read through them.

44. Search improvements

This may be a minor request, but I think the search function should only start its search when the user clicks enter or 'Search'. Sometimes, when I'm typing something halfway, the search function begins to search. The search also does not work well when I am accessing Brilliant on the internet using an iOS device.

55. Unrated problems

I remember recently in a note by Sue that unrated problems start out at 100 points. Why is it that I'm now seeing problems which state 'Level pending (10 points)'?

66. Practice topics

I'm perfectly fine with the new format. In fact, it's better since Brilliant has unlocked more topics to practise. However, I'm unable to find some of the old topics (Vieta's Theorem for example). This may be existent, but I'm unable to find it. Maybe it's under one of the Brilliant Squared topics (This is in no way opposing to Brilliant Squared)

77. Key Techniques

For newer members who just joined, they would not know about the previous 'Key Techniques' which could be accessed at the click of a button. I find it extremely tedious to have to scroll through all the sets just to find Calvin and Arron's sets. I think that we should create a separate link, which is easily accessible, to those sets. Only the sets with the notes (Number Theory Techniques, Olympiad Number Theory etc.)

This list is in no way exhaustive. Please comment on any notable features that should be implemented that has not been missed out.

Thanks and I hope to hear from the staff soon :)

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

One feature I would like is seeing activity in mobile and android view.

Thanks for your feedback. We will take this into consideration as we plan future features.

5) The "Level pending (10 points)" is a bug that we will fix. Thanks for letting us know.

6) We are still working on converting all of the practice section over. Give us time to organize them.
