I think it would be cool if Brilliant can have a "notifications" feature in the Brilliant website itself to show who replied our posts, solutions, who added solutions to our problems etc. instead of subscribing and get the notifications to our e-mails. And also settings to let us choose what notification do we want, for me that would be awesome! Who thinks that this is good?

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

We think it is a great idea too, and it is one of our highest development priorities :)
In the short term, though email is not the ideal method to track all of your interactions on Brilliant, you can control your email settings here.

Oh I didn't notice that! Alright that's great too!
Yeah, I posted a similar note that apparently no staff cared about. Whatever. Anyways, emails are becoming super annoying, but for certain things I would want to be notified by email. Please implement notifications!
I think this is a pretty good idea. However, I really don't like it when my notifications bar is flooded with messages (some which may be important but most not important), and it gets pretty annoying to the point that I neglect the notifications bar and stop using it.
So maybe if the notifications could be grouped into different categories (replies, solutions, etc) it would be more useful for me and perhaps others too.
And one more key thing: make sure that the notifications icon displays the number of unread messages, and on the actual notifications tab unread notifications will continue to be highlighted or grayed or any other way to indicate that it is not read, even after one exits the notifications page. On some websites, after clicking on the notifications icon, even when you have not read all of them the little number that shows what you have not read disappears, and the unread notifications' highlighting is gone. It is really annoying after that to try to find the unread notifications.
So that is my take on this issue; hope whoever is making the feature may heed my request :)

That's why I said you can control which notifications you want. Or in a post itself, you get to choose if you want notifications from that post. Great point there though.
The idea is excellent.
YES!
