February Newsletter

Hello Every 1nsinx6\dfrac{\frac{1}{n} sin x}{6}

This is the very first edition of the moderator newsletter. Due to lack of time and sources, and due to it's being first ever, this edition is a bit short. If you have any jokes, quotes, puzzles, or any interesting thing you think will be liked in the newsletter, or any feedback, you can do so by mailing at sgsuper@yahoo.comsgsuper@yahoo.com.

Brilliant Brilliant

New and Exciting Features

Over the past couple of months or so, we've had many changes in Brilliant. I'd like to throw light on some of them. The most important and probably the best of them was the introduction of Wikis. Brilliant was only for problems? No more! With the Wikis' getting better and better day-by-day, they're becoming a really nice way to learn. Forget Books!

We've also had the introduction of a very important feature that has been wanted for a long time - the notifications feature! Now you can know at a click if someone followed you, or your problem got reshared.

Latest Challenging Problems

As always, we've had some amazing problems here, which were both challenging, and amazing. I would like to feature some of them here, if you somehow didn't face them-

Easy Geometry, Would you go on calculating this?, Honey Bottle, Math Flag were some of the easy problems that made Krishna Ar think.

Inspired by Mehul Chaturvedi, Not Always Adorable, Minimizing Can Be Difficult!, An algebra problem by Sompong Chuisurichy were some problems that were challenging to Agnishom.

New and Active Members

W\large We have seen a lot of new people over the past few month, who have been really active and deserve recognition and a word of thanks. We wish that they will continue helping the community and will get lots of love from the same. Here are their names: Jack Rawlin, Robert Haywood, Math Philic, Vishal S, Anna Anant, Sudoku Subbu, Azhaghu Roopesh M, andDanish Ahmed are some of the new members who have been very active in the very recent past, and are definitely worth following.

Now That's Interesting!

interesting interesting

N\large Nothing on Brilliant can ever be boring.

Daniel Liu recently found a very interesting Algebraic Identity: xyz+(x+y)(y+z)(z+x)=(x+y+z)(xy+yz+zx)xyz+(x+y)(y+z)(z+x)=(x+y+z)(xy+yz+zx)

And Kishlaya Jaiswal found an amazing new identity, which was an over-head bouncer to me. Well, it states:

n=1m=1xnm(n+mm)=log(11x)\sum_{n=1}^\infty \sum_{m=1}^\infty \frac{x^n}{m{n+m \choose m}} = \log \left(\frac{1}{1-x}\right)

S\large Some new things going on, and some facts are as follows-

\bullet Omkar Kulkarni made a series of problems in Trigonometry, and is about to make a century! Oh Us!

\bullet The name of Sir Lin's cat is Grey, and so is "his" colour.

\bullet If you want to know about your Heart

\bullet You can take part in the on-going Valentines Day Themed Contest and get a chance to get to the top 5.

\bullet Visit for some cool Mathematical Jokes

WhoToFollow

Here's the most awaited WhoToFollow list. The members who have made to this list have been very active and deserve to be on the list. They are a sure WhoToFollow, and are always there to help the community. Here are the names, in no particular order:

\bullet Michael Mendrin

\bullet Sandeep Bhardwaj

\bullet Brian Charlesworth

\bullet Julian Poon

\bullet Mursalin Habib

\bullet Deepanshu Gupta

A hearty congratulations to all those who could make to the list.

In the end, our Quotist, Jeremy Bansil, has a quote for us- Changing the world into a better place takes a long time to finish, but teaching everyone to change the world into a better place can only take a day.

That's all for this edition. Please let us know if you liked it, by liking it and resharing it. Again, I would love any feedback, jokes/riddles/quotes/etc for the next edition by mail at sgsuper@yahoo.comsgsuper@yahoo.com.

Cheers!

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

1n\dfrac{1}{n} sin(x)6\dfrac{sin(x)}{6}

sin(x)=six(n)sin(x)=six(n)

    \implies sin(x)6=six(n)6=n\dfrac{sin(x)}{6} = \dfrac{six(n)}{6} = n

    \implies nn=1\dfrac{n}{n} = 1

Satvik Golechha - 6 years, 3 months ago

They are definitely the amazing people who manage to solve thousands of questions in a short time period.I hope that I might be the one someday but yeah,I joined this when I was 13 but I wasn't able to understand a single question in this website and I gave up but now I rejoin to face this challenge but it wasn't a challenge after I've been through thousands of obstacles,learning through mistakes makes us smarter and knowledgeable :) Happy birthday Satvik Golecha :) May God bless you :)

And also what l have to do have my name in that list of who to follow????

@Sarvesh Dubey Hi @sarvesh dubey , in my opinion, if your goal is just to be up on the list of WhoToFollow, you'll be facing a hard time trying to post more problems, solutions and wiki. Just be yourself, share what you think is good to the community and without you yourself noticing, we'll quietly put you up there. Good luck problem solving!

Christopher Boo - 6 years, 4 months ago

@Sarvesh Dubey Hi @sarvesh dubey Being on the list of WhoToFollow is really hard work. You need to be very active and helpful to the community, as they have been! :D

Satvik Golechha - 6 years, 4 months ago

  • Moderator's do not have the access to your percentile score so far. You may wish to request @Calvin Lin in his messageboard for that information.

  • You can post interesting problems, notes, wikis, solutions, help other people, and otherwise participate in the community.
