Fictitious Current

During charging of a capacitor, how does the displacement current flows through the dielectric between the two plates of the capacitor though there is no flow of charge through the dielectric?

Comments

If electrical current were solely governed by the flow of electrons, could it move at the speed of light? Does it? Is that related to the question? It's sort of hard to understand.

Sorry for the inconvenience. There is a fictitious displacement current between the plates of the capacitor which can be shown to be equal in magnitude to the real current charging the capacitor. So my question is whether the displacement current has any physical cause or is it simply fictitious?

Good luck figuring this out. It is outside of my area of expertise. Change the title to something like "Is the Displacement Current physically measurable?" (if that is what you mean) so you will attract people who just read your title.

Perhaps you know its effects can be measured, but not why. Then ask that.
