Find the smallest possible value of x^2 + 4xy + 5y^2 -4x - 6y + 7. I tried finding a perfect square in this but some variables remain outside the perfect square. If anyone could suggest any other approach or a way to bifurcate in perfect squares please reply . This is Q17 Chapter-1 from the book SPIVAK CALCULAS.
