  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Query 1: Swain Sir, with all deference, what is the meaning of 'fin'? Also, how many marks do I get for my presentation of the question? Or will you fail me again!

"Fin" means "The End" , in French .

You shall get a BIG ROUND 00 xD. Just kidding.!

BTW you're talking about the integral question, right?

Samarpit Swain - 6 years, 2 months ago

I'm sorry. I had to write a solution to Gambler's Luck. You can't believe the mess I got into after reposting it.The only part which I was not entirely convinced with was your reasoning. According to me, it should be what I have written. If you still wish to post your solution, please do go ahead.

@User 123 Any special reason other than your love for your parents ? :)

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 2 months ago

No, it had actually come down to 140 from 330 or so, but then it rose again. Wait with patience; after some time, it will rise again. I know you're very disappointed; even I was when this had happened to my question. Keep your fingers crossed; it might rise when Sir sees your comment.

@Samarpit Swain Nice question! Completely stumped as of now, don't know how to approach it..Aachchaa, Swain Sir, are you sure it is (8y4y23)(8y-4y^2-3) in the second equation? The signs do not seem to match with those of the other two equations. Lastly, just make it a bit neater (I was going to edit it, but then I thought you should be the one to decide). For example, remove the \textbf, and put the three equations using just the backslash and square brackets around each of them. PS. Could you reshare those two questions of mine one last time? The points have come down quite a bit.

User 123 - 6 years, 1 month ago

Done! Secondly, the equations are not completely symmetric, hence the difference. I tried to make it symmetric but it was giving faulty results.

Aachchaa Swain Sir, I had to re-post the problem. It's the same, so just plug in the answer.

Yeah thanks! I have done it.

Samarpit Swain - 6 years ago

-_-

I think you must be called the "Re-poster" . You repost almost all of your questions :P

Really good question:) At first, I split it up into 3 series without checking for their convergence(and all 3 turned out to be divergent!). Finally had to use the Dominated Convergence Theorem and the Monotone Convergence Theorem. What about you?

User 123 - 5 years, 11 months ago

great.....some questions are really difficult
