This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science
related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should
explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments
should further the discussion of math and science.
When posting on Brilliant:
Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments
Hi all,
We will do a more comprehensive survey someday, but could any of you who are looking at this thread vote on some comments I am about to make so I can gauge public opinion. Feel free to explain your vote in a reply to each comment.
The first one, Would you like to be able to search members on Brilliant? Vote up for yes, down for no.
Would you like the ability to make invitation only discussion rooms? Or study groups, or some place for a group to talk with each other that would not necessarily be the whole brilliant community.
It should not be entirely privatized. There needs to be some moderation and a certain degree of control on part of the moderators over what it is being exchanged between users, to minimize abuse and cheating.
sir, this will create a mess i think... messaging privately.... will make it a bit confusing... instead i think their should be an option of following someone's profile.... :) as it will make brilliant in a manner same as facebook... and i think many ppl here don't like accessing facebook :|
Would you like the ability to follow the activity of other user's? like friending on fb, following on twitter, recieving updates on latest comments from from people on Brilliant, what problems they have solved this week etc...
The explicit 1-1 friendship options are pretty limited as Bob has pointed out in the current state of Brilliant. We do not intend for the site to be this way forever, Brilliant will eventually be a place where you can actually befriend people as opposed to merely be friendly.
As far as the social networking of the sight goes, it doesn't seem like there is much room to make friends. There is currently no way to find, contact, or message other users, although this sort of system may be put into place much later. It is possible however to ask for someone's personal contact information in an open discussion. I have seen that sort of thing happen, but then of course there's another privacy issue in that. So all in all, it looks as if your chances are pretty slim!
yes,it would be really bad to introduce of that sort.As we can see what happens in facebook is that people are gossiping and chatting. There is absolutely no reason to make anything of that sort

sir, i request to introduce a search option to find out my competitors and friends where we an only search them and are able to view their profiles :|

This is an absolutely necessary feature.

study groups
i totally agree with you.... it would be great to have a discussion room instead of private messaging :)
Will it be similar to that of Math.se?
Would you like to be able to privately message other user's on Brilliant? Vote up for yes, vote down for no.

Another possibility is allowing people to form study groups with specific topics. That'd be a nice addition.

And chat rooms for specific topics.

Sadly not even thought friendship is magic
yeah!!! or u could make friends in real life...
