In this problem, is f(x) a function like f(x)=sin(x) or is it a polynomial??

The question is

A function f:R→R satisfies f(5−x)=f(5+x). If f(x)=0 has 5 distinct real roots, what is the sum of all of the distinct real roots?

It is a function, not a polynomial.

@Aasif Khan I mean do i need to invent such a function and then work on it, like the function could be anything like sqrt(sin(x)) . So do I need to discover the function first?

f(x) is a function, not necessarily a polynomial.
