Amidst the situation that JEE is coming near, I want to talk about something, how many of you all are interested in research that is making a carrer in research after graduation in whatever field. If you are interested please share you views about what encourages you to go in the field of research, and which college you are aiming to go into at present.
Kindly share your views about what you want to do in your future. I am adressing this to all the people currently studying in 10,11,12.
Please reshare this note so that other's may be able to comment on this note.

Hi Bro ! I Love Physical Phenomena Very much ! So firstly I Desperately want to complete my graduation In IIT's , Because I want to Live the Life of engineer at Reputed IIT's ! Since IIT's are one of few institutes (in india) that Gives you platform for studying the Beauty of Science in fun way and also there we can study with no burden and we can study in Meaning full way ! Also I doesn't want to study Like Bookworm . I just want to enjoy my studies and other activities too ! Like I Love Sport's (Specially Football) ! So You Know IIT's also Promotes Such overall development of a person! I mean a person which is educated from IIT's has very well developed personality ! But Yes I don't want to do Job , I did not Like restriction's and boundation' s .I just want to study more and more and want to Learn more and more !
I Love analyse Mathematical Science, like as i currently I love Problem which need's Mathematical treatment in Physics ! And also I want excel in calculus ,Like Presently I'am fan of you and Pratik's (@shastri) Integration skill's. You guys are cool in them ! Also I want to do graduation in Meachanical Engg. and after that I want to do research work , in any field which fascinating me more after my graduation ! But in opposite to this field , in Present Space Science is fascinating me Very much and I really feel wonders about the origin of universe , Big -bang theory etc. These Thing's are really very interesting !
But Yes Time to time our interest are changes and also things will change . And we (Particularly me) don't know much about such thing's . So These are only Probable aspect's ! May be Possible that I do some other thing which I can not imagine at this time ! So Now My primary focus is on JEE ! And Hoping for Best ! And Leave Rest on my Luck !

I agree with you buddy! I also think in the same way as you. And we share same interests! Me too have a keen interest in space science and it always fascinates me! IIT's are India most premier institue, no wonder why everyone want to be a part of it. Hope we all get into IIT's and make the rest of our life as the best of our life! Good luck fellas! ⌣¨
thats just the same how i think.the only reason i want to get into a good iit is that the education there is extremely nice and the kind of exposure you get with people of all different background is thrilling.(this is not my personal input my cousin graduated from iit kgp and shared his experiences with me!!) but whtaever happens lets hope for the best!! good luck to every one.
BTech from iit (Computer Science or Electrical)............then job in USA Google/Texas Insturuments(their employees even got nobel prize for physics research)................then MS from Caltech/MIT........then continue my job to make enough money for what i'm planning next...............buy a private island, private jet,a skyscraper in NYC,LA etc....go for a world tour,do all adventure sports..................retire early..............live in the mansion built on my private island............research for the rest of my life about quantum physics/string theory/dark matter etc. in the underground laboratory built beneath my mansion......become famous for my research papers........................die while experimenting

All such fun alone? =P
I wish to pursue research(theoretical physics), and hope to cross the necessary cut off for JEE so as to get into IISC, or CPI (atomic energy department) or NISER, or last priority IISER, but i dont want to let go of JEE either, firstly because i need a backup plan if i dont get into others, because if i atleast become an engineer (if things go wrong), even then i can do physics as long as i have a job without people nagging me, also for ego reasons( imagine the pride of bagging a good rank) (not a joke, i think every one does feel this atleast to some extent) , one way or the other, sooner or later, i want to get into theoretical physics , but the best choice is to go through the IISC or NISER or CPI route, though the seats of all combined is perhaps barely 200, and i must work hard.
As for scope, i believe that all the professors you see in IIT and reputed universities are more often than not PHD fellows and not engineers ( i know because i am studying in KV IIT kharagpur) and they get lots of money, so provided we work hard and are sincere in our vision , i believe its not that low profile, sufficient for a decent survival.
now it is entirely your choice, but i feel if you are really inclined for it, then you should go get it.
i am particularly interested in analysing phenomenon in mathematical detail, like we all know how to calculate current in an AC circuit, using phasors, but some one who knows how so solve second order non homegenous differential equations will know that it is a lie, all we calculate is what the current is in the steady state, there are so many inverse exponential functions that die out very soon and we ignore , and if u wish to know what those terms are, then you must use math,
similar examples include olympiad problems particularly i love those soap bubble problems, (gas bubble) its reactions to external conditions, etc and also current through infinite mediums, i believe we share similar interests in physics

Thanks for sharing your views as you know we share same aspiration and analysing physical phenomenon in mathematical detail gives me happiness and hence I want to go into the field of theotical physics.

Wow !!! You want to take up theoretical physics ,you know now you are like Superman to me !!!! Me and Physics are like cats and dogs , we can never be together . Haha ,I was never able to enjoy Physics as much as you or Deepanshu , I might envy you for that but good luck for you achieving your dreams ⌣¨
I really agree with your thoughts. I too have a similar aims for my future.
I would like to let you know that you should NEVER go to IISER. Students there shared some things....

Why IISC or NISER or CPI . You must know that life at an IIT would be much more thrilling . I looked up some courses and found a really good one. here http://jeeadv.iitd.ac.in/course-display/5209 . It deals with all the latest fields in physics. Anyways, it is your decision........All the best.

IIT is amazing there is no doubt, but it is a fact that It is more so for engineering centred physics which goes to say primarily applications, like building a space ship, i am not so much interested in that , i am more interested in Theoretical physics, ofcourse IIT offers BSc courses as well but IISc offers much better BSc cources whereas IIT offers undoubtably one of the best B-Tech courses,
Basically, going where the fruit is ripest :)
(Note that IIT is not out of choice, it is very well in my list as well, but i believe that my primary choices should be the top ones for undergraduate courses that are seriously research oriented and engaged and not as a side part as in IIT )

Hello! I guess i'm kind of an oddball here! Let me formally introduce myself: I'm S Raghav Vaidyanathan and I study in class 12, Kochi, kerala.
To tell the truth, I'm extremely confused. I'm really interested in doing research, especially in applied fields. That's why I thought engineering was the way to go, as then it would be possible to go into design and stuff. I like making stuff(it's stupid, i know). Ever since KVPY camp, I'm even more confused. But since IIsc also takes into account JEE score, I think that getting good rank in JEE is a win-win, whatever I want to opt.
I'm guessing the author of the note must also be faced with questions like this... The thing that encourages me to go into R&D is because I'm happiest when I'm building or making something... And the satisfaction that I get when it's successful knows no bounds... It's like you know, when you are doing something, that you want to do it for the rest of your life...

Finally I got someone thinking exactly like me having same desires and aspirations and thinking exactly like me, yes I am facing with the same problems, I also like building stuff and analyse there workings but I am little more incllined towards theortical research and hence feel that engineering is not made for me but still people say that there is no scope of research in India(they say it's a very low profile life) and that makes me feel very discouraged, is there anyone on brilliant from India who's already engaged in research he may be the better one to tell us about the life in doing research.
I also get great satisfaction in analysing situations and modelling physical situations mathematically. Thanks for expression your concerns here ( and mine also ) @Raghav Vaidyanathan

It's great to know that I have company! And yes I'm more interested in practical applications and theoretical research seems a bit hard for me to grasp.
People do say that, i agree. No scope for research, you have to go abroad, you won't earn enough and things like that. Then there's the age old: "you can always come back to research after doing engineering". They maybe right, they maybe wrong, as I said, it's confusing. But there's one thing that I realized, quite recently too. It's that a career in research will require a person to dedicate a lot of time in order to achieve their goals, both professionally and financially. You don't become a good scientist overnight, or even in years. On the other hand, opting for engineering(as i've been made to believe) gives you a better chance at success(mostly money) while spending lesser time and resources. How much better is the chance? Nobody knows, but when they hear about salary packages offered to IITians, they think the chance is really high. They never tell you about the number of people who lose out after taking engineering, neither do they tell you about the successes of research.
I think you are right Ronak, we do need someone to really tell us the truth about how it is to be in research. And I know you'll agree with me when I tell you that the decision is not going to be easy. It will take a lot of thought and even more of time. Hope we end up doing whatever is best.
Yeah, I also feel the same. I really want to go for IISc to pursue career in research. But I don't know what to do after that. Where shall I go to pursue my career in research!!.
I know you . We were in the same hostel at ISI

Really! I'm so sorry, but I met so many people there that it's difficult to remember! How do you remember?
My current aim is going to IIT,anyone and any branch will work. Then get a good job (most preferrably in Japan).I really like anime and maths a lot.I would like to do as much research as I can in maths. Most of all,I would like to live a peaceful life without hardships.

Hi Bro ! I'am just curious , Why u want to chose specifically Japan ? I Really Don't Know about Priority of Reserch's in other's contraries. By 'anime' did you mean ' animation ' ?
Yes,Japan produces a lot of anime every year. Also they have a lot of Manga(Japanese comics).I really like them since I was 8 years old.

I'm also interested in doing research...I'm guessing that if you do finally decide to take up research, then IISC Bangalore will be your first preference? On a related note, how was the KVPY camp? I had been looking forward to meeting you :)...But your camp wasn't at IISC right?
Yes, IISc banglore would be my first preference, also it is providing undergraduate courses for students interested in research. The KVPY camp was good but was not as exciting as I thought it to be. But my camp wasn't at IISC, it was in kolkata and was conducted by IISER Kolkata.
At least some of the professors were very good speakers :) ...And would you take up research in a purist discipline like theoretical physics or does your interest lie in some applied field like nanotechnology?
As of now(given the limited exposure) I feel inclined towards the latter. And btw, regarding the admission process...Do you know if there is a cut-off for a particular stream or something(i.e do the people with best ranks choose their stream first and then other people pick from the remaining seats?)?
I am going to IISc Bangalore as well. The most disappointing aspect of vijyoshi camp was that they didn't allow us to explore the campus. Though I did interact with some students. The competition is pretty good (several Olympiad medalists )
@Ronak Agarwal What are your resources ? Do you know any good geometry book ? I have finished class 9th and 10th geometry. Could you recommend a good problem solving book.
