  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

Sorry to be a party pooper, but y=sinx y = \sin x , y=logax y = \log_a x are wrong.

y=ax y = a^x should also include the qualifier a>1 a> 1 lol.

Perhaps we should make this an MCQ of "How many mistakes are there?"

U Z - 6 years, 7 months ago

You're just jealous you don't have those dance skills ;D

Daniel Liu - 7 years, 2 months ago

y=sinxy = sin x is definitely wrong. I reckon y=logaxy = \log _{ a }{ x } is right if a<1 a < 1. Maybe I'm wrong. Lol.

If a<1a<1, then also the graph is wrong. The domain of the function is positive real numbers, so the graph is definitely wrong

Raushan Sharma - 5 years, 9 months ago

@Raushan Sharma Well, the shape looks legit, at the very least. :P I should've also said 0<a<10<a<1. But of course, you're right in saying that.

Vishnuram Leonardodavinci - 5 years, 9 months ago

:(

Finn Hulse - 7 years, 2 months ago

Ahaha I was actually looking at some of these and thinking to myself some seem a bit off!

@Chung Kevin @Silas Hundt I want a video of the Brilliant team doing this dance, set to The Safety Dance. Bonus points for @Calvin Lin stubbornly doing the correct sin(x) and log(x).

@Daniel Hirschberg Lol!!!

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 7 months ago

However, converting the words to Chinese (Direct translate) is maths (physical) exercise, with my interpretation.

Julian Poon - 6 years, 1 month ago

@Silas Hundt There's a poster of this in my old Precalculus class, with one addition: a person with his arms all tangled up labeled "WTF?"

Trevor B. - 7 years, 2 months ago

This brings back memories... I was forced to do this "dance" during our club session once... And the last one was some tangled arm thing labelled as crap

Anqi Li - 7 years, 2 months ago

y = [x] , this function makes it a grand party!

IT'S A VERY GOOD AND FUNNY TOO

VINAY KUMAR AGARWAL - 7 years, 2 months ago

That is very good idea to learn functions with my children:) Thank you! We will make them without mistakes. But also I think that it will be good to present them with any mistake, which the children have to find them!

@A Former Brilliant Member ‘text‘\textrm{`text`} renders text as output.

Those "quote"-like marks are given by the key which is exactly below the "Esc" key.
