How do you lose rating?

I know you gain ratings but how do you lose them. Few things come to mind:
1. (not true) The ratings are timed out, i.e you lose them after a fixed period such as two weeks
2. (true) You gain ratings by solving problems correctly but you lose ratings for answering a problem incorrectly
3. (not true) you lose ratings by opening up a problem and then giving up and exiting that problem without a solution

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

You do not lose points.

Do you mean rating? You don't lose points. If you do mean rating, then i) isn't true. Only ii) is true

:/ I misread the ii) part. Only the first part is true. I'm pretty sure the second part of ii) (the opening a question part) is false. You don't lose rating (I think) for just looking at a question. The only way to lose ratings (Again not sure) is by answering a question wrong.

@Siddhartha Srivastava Thank you again Siddhartha. It's very nice of you to take the time to answer my question

For clarity, I have edited your note.

You can track your rating changes on the Stats page
