  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

While I really like the new format, I think the problems from those days were much better. I would be happy if 4-8 problems were given by the brilliant staff every week while maintaining the current format.

We should have the old format as the main page and be able to access the new format on a different page.

Taehyung Kim - 7 years, 2 months ago

I agree. This would probably be the best way to satisfy both parties.

Lee Wall - 7 years, 2 months ago

Anubhav Singh - 7 years, 2 months ago

Arijit Banerjee - 7 years, 2 months ago

@Anubhav Singh I think the staff members know better which one is good... so just leave it to them. If they feel like changing it they can...

Yes, I can recall,,, With 4 problems each every week, and next week new problems,, The discussions were given besides and on its top was the comparison bar,,, The most amazing thing was the leaderboard given bellow each section,, It was really a craze to see your name in top 10 or 20,,,,,,

Anubhav Singh - 7 years, 2 months ago

It was incredible, seriously! I am in.But not just four problem ,A little bit more.I assume, could be good for everybody...I think-How old is BRILLIANT...

Archiet Dev - 7 years, 2 months ago

100% in Favor..

Snehal Shekatkar - 7 years, 2 months ago

It has been mentioned in AoPS (and I totally agree with this) that the new format is way less instructive. In an attempt to make Brilliant less boring, I think the new site is more boring in that problem quality has sunk. There are many good things however as I have pointed out in an e-Mail to @Peter Taylor. I hope Brilliant can remind us of those gold old days again!

My supports to you

Anubhav Singh - 7 years, 2 months ago

I suggested a new way to implement both formats. But so far staff did not respond.

Snehal Shekatkar - 7 years, 2 months ago

I like the old format. It's much harder to find good problems these days.

Taehyung Kim - 7 years, 2 months ago

new rule for 100 points for each question should be changed and points should be according to the difficulty level of questions

Kobe Bryant Pe - 7 years, 2 months ago

I am in favour of the old format.

Soham Dibyachintan - 7 years, 2 months ago

The old format was several times better!!!!!!!

Jordi Bosch - 7 years, 2 months ago

I personally like the really really old format - the one with only three categories ("Algebra and Number Theory", "Geometry and Combinatorics", and "Mechanics, Electricity, and Magnetism") and eight problems to solve per week - the best. There was no rating system; you leveled up by correctly answering 15 out of 16 problems within any given section. (I personally preferred this better, because nowadays it's so hard to level up that the average rating on problems now usually caps out at Level 4 which drags down user ratings overall. Also, you could get three tries and it wouldn't matter whether you used one try or all three to get the problem correct.)

Of course, this format has its benefits too, but, eh, to each his own.

David Altizio - 7 years, 2 months ago

the old page must be brought back

Tarun V Kumar - 7 years, 1 month ago

Weekly challenge as in???

Tanya Gupta - 7 years, 2 months ago

Yes agreed ...... The previous format was well time bound and most important , MEASURABLE ! In the new format , there's no limitation and thus we don't get the feeling of contentment even if we solve 100 problems a day ... Previous format was cool and after completing the Weekly challenges this feeling of contentment was there ... Now though there are more problems and scope for users to submit problems , its not at all better than the previous !

Aditya Raut - 7 years, 2 months ago

What about a referendum to decide it?

Jordi Bosch - 7 years, 2 months ago

i think old one was a diamond and the present one is lead...

Vighnesh Raut - 7 years, 1 month ago

@Anubhav Singh I am curious to know whose feed is this because the ratings are way good.
