I appreciate the fact that my answer is wrong although i an struggling to find where the real answer has come from. At the time i was not subscribed so was unable to find the solution!

The distance uphill is x. The distance downhill is y. Hence, x/2+ y/6= 14 hours and x+y=72 km. Solve this simultaneous equation. You will have x=6 km and y=66 km. Hope this helps.
