This year IIT Advanced 2015 paper, the pattern reflected a view of IIT examination...!!
Paper 1 patter contained 8 integer type questions with zero negative marking but the student has a probability of 1/10 if he does a blind guess.
10 multiple correct questions with +4 and -2 negative marking which is 50% negative marking. Multiple correct itself is a tough pattern to follow as if the student knows three of four options still he may be wrong if he wrongly mark about the fourth one and now this contains 50% negative marking. That implies the pattern is enforcing the students to mark only and only if they are dead sure..!!!
lastly 2 matrix match type questions with one to many matching and again with 50% negative marking. (One of the matrix match is according to me is debatable though) But the 50% negative marking again is testing the students to mark only an only if they are dead sure.!!
Now if we talk about the marking scheme of paper 2, again 8 integer type with no negative marking. 8 multiple correct type with 50 % negative marking i.e. (+4 for correct and -2 for incorrect and 0 for not attempting. ) Lastly 2 comprehension type questions again +4 for correct and -2 for incorrect and 0 for not attempting.
If we talk about the level of hardness of questions. I would say maximum questions were like level 2 or 3 of brillant.org standards. 1-2 questions can be given level 4 non was compared with level 5.
But as the pattern of the paper was tough and the exam stress screw you badly make you do silly mistakes temp you to guess mark even if you are 50% sure..!! makes the paper tough..!!
If we compare the % of xi and xii syllabus, then xii syllabus was asked more than xi nearly 55-60 % was xii and 40-45% was xi.
After seeing the paper what i believe is the exam of IIT Advanced checks not only your conceptual depths, but also your personality as a whole. How much pressure can you handle and how you attempt the paper, and do you trust and believe your answers. Anyways to all the students, all the very best for the results now.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

and Sir some physics problems were extremely beautiful which i loved to solve, you might have seen the question on thermodynamics in paper 2, that was so beautiful, also the comprehension was so nice, about hall effect and the one about optical fibres
The only i think i was not pleased about physics was a problem regarding resistance in paper 1 which was unnecessarily calculative
But, i really liked the physics this time , simple and conceptual

exactly so..

I liked the physics paper. Most of it was short and sweet :) . Btw how much are you guys expecting to score in Physics?
The resistance problem was not very calculative... Was it? It is just two of those in parallel.
yes, but i left it to the end and had to figure it before invigilator came , so i was tensed so much that i failed in solving the problem , may i know about your performance bro, (qualitatively or quantitavely, your wish)

It would be very nice sir if you can give some tips to handle pressure during exam time. Some advice on time management would also be good.

The key in handling the pressure at exam time is in the preparation and expectations...!!
TIME BASED STUDY
At the time of preparation you should practice time based study, give yourself target and number of questions to do and try to complete them in time.
DO NOT FIGHT WITH A QUESTION IN EXAM!!
Too much Favoritism for a subject may harm you as well!! The exam contain three subjects physics chem and maths, lets say physics is your favorite and chemistry is your least preferred subject. Now suppose in exam physics comes very lengthy and difficult and chem very easy, You started with physics with an attitude to crack all the questions. Now you will spend too much time in completing it, and you will start coming in tension and stress and start making more and more mistakes. In this case its better to switch from physics to other subject or skip those questions which appear hard to do on the first look.
FAITH IN YOURSELF
You need to keep keep faith in yourself that will make you calm. Think if you are not able to do the questions then the paper must be tough and others must be struggling as well. So keep a faith on yourself..!!
EXAM MANAGEMENT
Start the exam with the subject you are most comfortable with, As well as the pattern of the questions you are comfortable with. I personally recommend to start from chem if you are comfortable with it as it can be done quickly and will boost your confidence. Switch the subject immediately if you are finding the things very tough.
SELF PRACTICING TEST
Give mock test as many as possible and see your weak and strong areas.
CRAM ALL THE FORMULAS AND SHORTCUTS
If you try to derive the formulas in the exam then you will never be able to complete the exam in time.

Thanks for the suggestion. especially the 2nd one. I love p & m. I hate org chem to the largest extent. Now ive got to change my thoughts +1
Haven't u underestimated the problems by saying them level 2-3 sir.I think u just underrated them acc to me.

Hi @Gautam Sharma By saying level 2-3 i meant that the brilliant level 4 and 5 questions are tougher than those came in Advanced exam!! And it is just my point of view.. and i was talking about the majority questions not all..!!
saketh da .. have u purchased anything of brilliant ??? Plz suggest me the books u read for mathematics and physics ... i am also from kgp of ur school . it would be very much beneficial if u tell to whom u went for tuitions.. plz in need . I dont know if u remember but i went wid u at ncsc wen u were in 11.. plz kindly help
