For those who are not Indians, let me give a brief outline about what IIT JEE really means... It is actually an entrance exam, for admission into the most premier engineering institutes of India - Indian institutes of technology (IITs). JEE stands for joint entrance examination. By many, it is considered to be one of the most competitive and difficult exams in the world. every year, several lac Indian students appear for the examination, and only about 2% of them make it through. The reason i am writing all this on brilliant is simply that IIT JEE has a lot to do with mathematics, physics and chemistry. If you just go through the previous years papers of the exam, you will find really tough problems, especially in math and physics. the students who pass the exam are Olympiad toppers, and some of them go on to become professors at prestigious research institutes like princeton, harvard, MIT, stanford etc. If any IIT student or alumni is present on brilliant, then please do join the discussion and share their JEE experience...... BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE FOR JEE ADVANCE UPCOMING SUNDAY....

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

I would rather say "Self-Study is the best study!" Just buy the proper pcm books ,bunk college, no classes then you easily get 10hrs a day to study then watch a movie,fb or even cricket, football, etc. Studying seriously after 11th Diwali vacs is also enough!! always b confident. There are also other good colleges than IIT....If u have the talent you'll go anyway...or even after studying the hell out you may not be selected.....so just take it easy, relax n enjoy your life for getting into IIT does not ensure you happiness....at the most money!

VERY WELL SAID MY FRIEND....
I wrote JEE way back in 2008. No prelims or advanced back then. Just 1 exam - 2 papers. I had a decorated profile with Olympiads, state level awards, etc. I went to the exam hall with confidence and 2 years of sincere preparation. Exam pressure can make people crazy (not talking about malpractice). I performed way below my level, but managed cleared with AIR 1432. I graduated from Dept. of Aerospace Engg., IIT Madras in 2012. I'm currently pursuing MBA in MDI Gurgaon and I wish to earn Ph.D in Maths or Stats from a prestigious institute.

now there are jee main and advanced. cut off for jee main is 113. do you know the cut of of jee advanced ? please tell. i am good in maths at solving questions of jee. does it makes me a chance to score a beautiful rank ? my friends told me that i need to pass physics and chemistry cutoff also. and chemistry is.. hmm .. i dont know. so does there also exist different kind of cut off for subjects. please tell more info also about it.

Yes, there are individual subject cutoffs too. You need to attain a minimum score in each subject (around 25%). And being strong in mathematics only can get you through the exam, but it doesn't warrant you a decent rank. so you need to put equal effort in each subject in order to attain a good rank.
JEE is the most difficult examination. Agreed. But point to be note here is that the difficulty is in terms of the competition and not the quality of questions. It is true that the question standard is pretty high but it is not the toughest exam in terms of question paper difficulty.

I agree with the competition part. It's tougher to get into an IIT than to get into Harvard - an old saying. But I don't agree with your view on the difficulty. Once upon a time, JEE used to have 2 rounds - prelims and finals just like the current format. Around 20000 people used to qualify for the final. The final paper was subjective. Cutoff score in the final paper used to be below 5%. Top 20000 in India and a cutoff score below 5%? How? PS: Only top 20-30% of the top 20000 used to make it through. Atleast 70% of the top 20000 in India scored less than 5%.
Mr. Kapil Sibal has ensured that pretty much any advice, that your senior IIT students can give you, is useless in the current scenario with the change in admission process. In my opinion, the process of screening and final exam was the best one. The objective paper pattern too was good. But the current one will only deteriorate the quality of the institutes. But that is a completely separate issue.
I want to ask you about isi . What to do for subjective questions. Is there any book by going through which I can learn more. It should be very helpful if you tell me anything about ISI Kolkata.

You can buy the question bank book test of 'mathematics at the 10 plus 2 level', which is published by ISI and contains previous years question papers, both mcq and subjective , that should give you a good idea. Best of luck!!
You're 18. Are you looking for Bachelor's degree in ISI?
yeap (Y)
Yeah u have expressed my opinion dude............. even i my self trying to prepare for it............
JEE is an exam and IIT is an college dude...the topmost in india.but JEE grants us admission in many premier colleges.......im preparing for it and are you an IIT student?
I'm in 12 now and will be answering jee in the coming year...do you have any shortcuts for preperation now?! Any revision methods?!
Sadly, people around you don't take shortcuts. There is no substitute for consistent hard work. People claim that more weightage is given to chapters xyz, abc, etc., but there is not guarantee that preparing chapters xyz, abc, etc. will get you a seat in an IIT as the paper is unpredictable.
I am in 11th now I haven't joint any coaching classes just I have a physics reference book , but I want to ask 1 thing which book should I refer for chemistry any idea iit students and tell me is reference book necessary for maths or school books are sufficient

JEE is important because it's can get into elite Indian institutions like IIT and NIT . But remember this . JEE is not the end of life . It's just a tiny part of your life. Even if you don't qualify still no worries because you have years ahead of you . The focus must me on being a top engineer and not on being a student of top engineering college . Good luck for JEE
