This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

I like how at 103510^{-35} it says Planck length. Things any smaller "makes no physical sense"

There is something I don't understand. When they say the universe is expanding do they mean the visible universe because that I can understand. Wouldn't that question the Big bang theory some way?

@Johnson I think they do mean the visible universe is expanding and I think the wierder thing is that it is supposedly speeding up, expanding at a faster rate. I do not understand a lot of this article but I think they blame a lot of the speeding up on the invisible universe(energy and matter). I think that did pose problems for the big bang but they decided it was just a different kind of bang rather than overthrow the theory, not too sure though.

I mean that the visible universe is expanding only because light has just arrived. How do they know that beyond our view of the visible universe the actual whole universe is expanding.
