This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

Construct point I, which is the reflection of D about FE.

α=IHE\alpha = \angle IHE

α+β=IHE+EHC=CHI\alpha+\beta = \angle IHE + \angle EHC = \angle CHI

Connect CI. Note that HCI\triangle HCI is a right angled isosceles triangle, thus CHI=45\angle CHI = 45^\circ

γ=45\gamma = 45^\circ

Thus sum of 3 angles =90=90^\circ

y=45degree. alpha+ beta= 45 degree as tan ( a + b)= tan a + tan b /(1-tan a * tanb)= (1/2+1/3)/(1-1/2*1/3)=1 =90 degree.

Lakshaya Bangur - 7 years, 9 months ago

answer =90

  1. use trigonometry. tangenta formula

Vali Dobre - 7 years, 9 months ago

This was in our fiitjee booklet last year.Quite easy

Priyatam Roy - 7 years, 9 months ago

90 degree!! tan^-1(1)+tan^-1(0.5)+tan^-1(1/3)=90
