Is a Change necessary?

Hi guys,i think that Brilliant is no more 'brilliant' like before....the old format was much better.....but still if brilliant cannot be back with old format then some edits should be made in the present format as follows...

1.There should Not be more than 10 problems per topic for a week. At least two problems in every topic should be written by the challenge masters

2.There should be a separate leaderboard for every topic showing the top 50 scores

3.Top 3 scores at the end of every Month should be awarded with some prizes like brilliant lanyard and T-Shirts.

4.Solutions to the questions shall be displayed d next week only.

5.Brilliant should organize a competition after every 3 months(if they want)

Users may also give there opinion......

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Weekly problems

The old format was several times better!! Since the change I've done very few problems here. Everything is disorganized I don't know what problems I should do and. Like if you want Brilliant to return to the old format!

Weekly problems were the essence of Brilliant

Jordi Bosch - 7 years, 2 months ago

Why should the number of problems per week be limited? I would like to solve more than 10 problems per week, that is, if I am able to solve them... Also, do you think money grows on trees? Where will Brilliant get the money for T-Shirts? And what is wrong with displaying solutions immediately?

P.S. I am just inquiring, do not get angry..

As mentioned by snehal points 1 and 2 are of much importance and rest if are not considered then i don,t bother and also let me remind you that time does not grow on tree...All are not on vacation like you and so doint 10 problems per "topic" is a difficult task and brilliant gave T-shirts earlier also when you were not here so you are not well familiar with brilliant.....and if you are not involved in cheating then you shold have no problem if the Solutions are shown a week later

You still didn't answer his last question. What is wrong with displaying solutions immediately?

@Siddhartha Srivastava Read properly i wrote " if you are not involved in cheating then you shold have no problem if the Solutions are shown a week later"

@Anubhav Singh I think you didn't understand what I meant. I asked what's "WRONG" with displaying solutions immediately. You haven't given a reason why the current system is wrong. The only reason (I think) you're giving is that people cheat in the current system. If so, explain how they're cheating, since it isn't very obvious.

@Siddhartha Srivastava Having multiple ids and seeing solution from one

Anubhav Singh - 7 years, 2 months ago

@Anubhav Singh Yes this happens a lot

Ashtik Mahapatra - 7 years, 2 months ago

@Anubhav Singh If this is the case, then the solutions can be displayed 1 week later.

Shabarish Ch - 7 years, 2 months ago

I know solving 10 problems is a difficult task and everyone is not able to do it. Even I am not able to do 10 problems sometimes. That doesn't mean that there should not be more than 10 problems...

On question of T-shirts you did not answer me, I asked where would the money come from..

On the issue of solutions, I completely agree with @Siddhartha Srivastava

Lastly, if you think that only points 1 and 2 are important, then why are you arguing about the others? Dismiss them...

Shabarish Ch - 7 years, 2 months ago

@Shabarish Ch That brilliant has 2 decide that they r going 2 bring back prizes or not if they cant then no problem

Anubhav Singh - 7 years, 2 months ago

If brilliant can't afford just three t shirts, then you can assume that brilliant is no more in the game

Ashtik Mahapatra - 7 years, 2 months ago

Ahem.... seriously? Are you sure? 3 t-shirts per week for each of the 8 subjects would work out to approx. 100 t-shirts per month. A t-shirt costs 500 INR which is the equivalent of 8 USD. You mean to say 800 USD per month is affordable?

Krishna Ar - 7 years, 1 month ago

@Krishna Ar Dude read the note properly. It is 3 t shirts per month not week

Ashtik Mahapatra - 7 years, 1 month ago

@Ashtik Mahapatra So calculating it is 24 t shirts which is around 192usd.

Ashtik Mahapatra - 7 years, 1 month ago

I try to be as polite as possible...

Shabarish Ch - 7 years, 2 months ago

And also the practice ques. should be closed if the user has solved the ques. once..For ex. in pre algebra many users solve it again and again and gain points..........

Prasad Nikam - 7 years, 2 months ago

Well if this occurs it is really going to be great. Brilliant will get more users and this will make the brilliant community even more competitive and brilliant will get larger audiences

Ashtik Mahapatra - 7 years, 2 months ago

I am not sure about third, fourth and fifth of your points. But I strongly agree with your first point and second point looks good to me. Actually I had started a bog also where people can give thier opinions about the new format, but after some time responses stoped. I really love the old format.

Snehal Shekatkar - 7 years, 2 months ago

Point 1 and 2 are the most important

Anubhav Singh - 7 years, 2 months ago

There should the separate scoreboard of most ques. solved along with the points......

Prasad Nikam - 7 years, 2 months ago

Share this with the staff will you?

Ashtik Mahapatra - 7 years, 2 months ago

It will be good for brilliant also as it will build large audience for them

Anubhav Singh - 7 years, 2 months ago

Actually i think that brilliant staffs are not able to make questions thats why they are doing so
