Is earth an open or closed system?

I always here people say earth is a closed system, but considering that in an open system both mass and energy can be transfered in or out of the boundry, than wouldnt earth be an open system due to the fact that astroids bombard our planet constantly (even if they are tiny). And not to mention particulate and other objects leave earth as well.
