it may seem a funny and a silly doubt...but...

My Question for past few years which I felt shy to ask my teachers is...

when a poison crosses its expiry date ...it becomes more poisonous or less poisonous?

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

Expiration dates are supposed to indicate when the product ceases to function as sold. So, for example, safe foods cease to be safe foods past expiration. Prescription pills ceases to work as well past expiration. Poisons ceases to be as effective past expiration. So, "less poisonous", in the case of common poisons.

An example of this is one of the Serbian assassinators of Franz Ferdinand. After killing the Archduke, he consumed cyanide pills in an attempt of suicide. However, the pills did not work, and he got violently ill. Then, he was caught, tortured and imprisoned.

Didn't the assassin bother to read the expiration date of those cyanide pills? ??

@Michael Mendrin I guess the whole idea of instigating a war of astronomical proportions made him a little forgetful!

Thank you very much sir :D

Depends, anyway you die.

:P

Ohh...does the effect depend on whether the poison is organic or inorganic?

I was just joking. Poison become less poisonous after expiry.

@Nanayaranaraknas Vahdam Thank you very much :D
