Chinese IQ Test: Crossing the river

I found a really nice logic puzzle game / IQ Test on the internet today. So, I thought I should share it here since we have a new Logic section on Brilliant already.

Here is a direct link to the game file (it loads on the browser itself and is ~600 Kb). Open the link and the game will open on your browser (assuming you've updated your Adobe Flash player).

Since the game is in Chinese Language, I managed to find an instruction sheet on how to play written in English. Please read it before playing the game. Here are the instructions:

There is indeed a solution to this problem and it isn't a trick (I verified it myself).

Happy gaming and happy puzzle solving. :)

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

It's Chinese, by the way.

I said Japanese based on the details of the original web page of the instruction sheet. You can check it out yourself.

No offense but Chinese and Japanese looks all the same to me. :P

(based on the image) It's written in Chinese. Chinese characters are a subset of Japanese Characters. And given that there are no "Japanese Connectors", this is written in Chinese.

The website just have the wrong attribution.

@Calvin Lin Good to know. Thanks for telling. :)

Maybe I should start learning Japanese properly. I know very limited Japanese (mostly learnt from watching anime :p).

@Prasun Biswas I tried learning Japanese because I was watching anime and wanted to stop reading the subtitles. I gave up after a while, because it was too much work lol.

@Calvin Lin Haha, I can relate. :D

Prasun Biswas - 6 years ago

Yes, it is Chinese because I read them. It is traditional Chinese characters not used in Mainland China but Taiwan and Hong Kong. The puzzle can still be from Japan, as the cartoons look Japanese. Taiwanese may adapt it from the Japanese. I solved it but not in one minute.
