JEE 2015 approaching!

As around just 100 days left in JEE Advanced 2015, I have decided to post a set of 8 problems every week (4 topics/set, 2 questions/topic). I hope these sets will cover most of the syllabus. \(\ddot\smile\)

Solutions will be added, if not already posted, after a week.

I'll keep on updating this note to add new links every week. Feedbacks and suggestions are welcomed.

So here goes my list:

  1. My Picks for JEE 1
  2. My Picks for JEE 2
  3. (i)(i) My Picks for JEE Advanced 1 (ii)(ii) My Picks for JEE Mains 1
  4. (i)(i) My Picks for JEE Advanced 2

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Best Of Luck To Everyone !!!

It would be nice if I could get into a good IIT and it would be even better if someone from Brilliant is there with me .

Aren't all IITs good?

All the best

Ritu Roy - 6 years, 4 months ago

Yes, I think 'good' is a relative term. They are better than other colleges in India. But IIT-B is better than IIT-Bhu or IIT-Roorkee. So we can't say IIT-Bhu is bad. That's just a comparison.

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 4 months ago

@Pranjal Jain Yeah, actually I was indeed referring to IIT-B, getting to study CS at IIT-B would be the best !!!

A Former Brilliant Member - 6 years, 4 months ago

@Pranjal Jain How's IIT Madras?

Ritu Roy - 6 years, 3 months ago

@Ritu Roy Its on number 4 in my list. After Bombay, Delhi and Kanpur.

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 3 months ago

Here's the next Advanced one. Mains will be coming tomorrow. Any suggestion/idea?

I'll also welcome chapter requests as in which chapters do you want. I get confused like "Should I post this one or that one? This is interesting but that's important..." and then end up posting bad or not-so-good questions.

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 3 months ago

Your questions are great.. if not the best. I don't think you should call them bad.

Which coaching centre do you go to?

Ritu Roy - 6 years, 3 months ago

Resonance

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 3 months ago

@Pranjal Jain Can you please post Chemistry questions?

Anuj Shikarkhane - 6 years, 4 months ago

Well, I can post physical chemistry problems but then for organic and inorganic chemistry, problems will be disputed too much. I'll try to post physical chemistry problems! ¨\ddot\smile

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 4 months ago

Ok..No problem

Anuj Shikarkhane - 6 years, 4 months ago

I don't think there is much scope to debate on problems on inorganic chemistry although I have to agree that questions on organic chemistry may cause a debate. But I would still encourage you to put up questions on these topics because that would at least provide a platform to discuss chemistry related topics on brilliant.

Sudeep Salgia - 6 years, 4 months ago

@Sudeep Salgia Thanks for suggestion! I'll try. But as you can see 1097=15\left \lfloor \dfrac{109}{7} \right \rfloor=15 sets can be posted at max. (Can't post more than one/week as time don't allow me) 15×8=12015×8=120 problems will be posted. Now dividing them among chapters, I don't think I'll get more than 2/chapter.

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 4 months ago

@Pranjal Jain Don't worry a lot of people on Brilliant will help you. At least I would. I would once again begin posting problems once my mid semester exams get over and I get some time to think and post problems and that is by the end of February.

@Sudeep Salgia Oh! So nice of you! Thanks!

Hi @Pranjal Jain , here I have posted a Physical Chemistry Question . I'd like it if you included it in your set.

It's just a suggestion !!

Anyone uses Physics Galaxy by Ashish Arora as a reference book for physics??

Ninad Akolekar - 6 years, 3 months ago

Yes, I do! But only for Mechanics.

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 3 months ago

What references do you use for other topics of physics, please tell me.

Ninad Akolekar - 6 years, 3 months ago

@Ninad Akolekar For EM, I prefer Anurag Mishra. For Waves/Optics, I don't use any specific book. I use MCQ by Deb Mukherjee in general.

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 3 months ago

@Pranjal Jain Thanks!!

Would you tell me good reference books for other subjects as well? (only if I am not disturbing you much; I know you are busy with your JEE prep) .I have just completed my class 11th course in my coaching.

Ninad Akolekar - 6 years, 3 months ago

@Ninad Akolekar For maths, I use "TMH for JEE Advanced"

For Organic Chemistry, "MS Chauhan"

For Physical Chemistry, I use book written by my teacher, SM Sir (Disha Publications).

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 3 months ago

Your sets will now be useful for future aspirants like me! ( Though I don't want to be an Engineer, but a mathematical physicist).

Harshvardhan Mehta - 6 years, 4 months ago

@Harshvardhan Mehta Well, I posted this on a note JEE coming... by Karan Shekhawat. Can you check it out there? What I didn't posted there is the branch. I love computer science (though I am Level 3 here, don't know anything about python). Even I have Computer Science as 5th subject. So that's gonna be CS most probably. I would be happy if I'll get it in IIT-B or IIT-D or IIT-K.

Mohit Khanwale - 6 years, 4 months ago

Y dont you try these, Combinatorics and Probability set by @Andrei Golovanov it consists of the most interesting and challenging question till date and second my set Combinatorics Challanger.

Harshvardhan Mehta - 6 years, 4 months ago

So I have added solutions to problems without a nice solution or if I had alternate solution. Gonna post next set tomorrow morning. (IST) Cheers! ¨\ddot\smile

Pranjal Jain - 6 years, 4 months ago

Given the fact that some problems in these sets are really easy, I am thinking of posting two sets per week, one for Mains and other for Advanced.

As @Harshvardhan Mehta pointed out, questions must be challenging. But at the same time, JEE Mains should also be taken cared of. So I hope this is a better idea.

Any comments/suggestions?

New sets launched!! I hope you guys will enjoy them. Keep posting solutions and resharing problems. ¨\ddot\smile

(3 chapters, 6 problems)/set this time as I focussed on quality more than quantity. Actually quantity has increased as 2 sets are there this time. Anyways, cheers!

And, is electronic and communication not available in IITs? I checked a few sites but didnt find the category.

Can you name a few engg colleges in india apart from iits which are of equally high standards?

Thanx in advance
