This is the first day of Adventures Of The Mind.
We get to meet participants from all over, and played games with them. There was a poker tournament with prizes to be won.
Registration took some time to process, and we are all settled in. Some of us are homesick, some of us are still jetlagged. But all of us are excited!

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

First day was pretty cool! Loads of people started arriving, and apparently everybody loves italians!
In the afternoon, we had our first "lecture" , or rather a quick introduction to Adventures of the Mind, a brief run-down of everybody's names, and a crash course on poker.
Then, things started getting serious: it's poker tournament time! The game was great, and the winners of each table got a signed book and a Chromecast!
Lesson of the day: don't be too conservative! If you want to get anything, you must take some risks! I played way too safely, and I only took some risks by the end of the game, but it was too late to get enough chips to win a prize...
Of course, that doesn't mean you can just go crazy whenever you want, but you gotta make a move sometime!
To quote Winston Churchill: "Change is not always a good thing, but if you want to improve, you need to change."
The first day was awesome, I met many new students(most of them arrived today), played basketball and participated on a poker tournament.
Most of the people here are just as cool as I expected! It is just so nice to meet someone with similar interests but from a completely different culture!
After dinner(that began 5PM) we met the founders of AoM. They spoke some general summit-related words and had a quick "say your name and where you are from" with everybody.
To end the day, we learned the basics of poker and had a quick tournament in each table(10 per table). I placed 2nd, so I am getting a book! Also, as the competition ended, we had some dessert-time!

You misspelled 'awesome'. Probably just a typo.
Food-habits are important and learning about poker
The first thing I learnt this day is food-habits matter. The food here is really different from what I eat in my country so the transition was a little difficult. I even threw up a little. But I didn't let that ruin my day.
Later in the day, we learnt about poker. It turns out I'm not very good at that. May be I wasn't not doing that right.
What's AotM?
Or AOM?
I didn't understood

Please see the first note in this set for an explanation. This is meant for the participants of Adventures Of The Mind to keep an online diary of their experiences and knowledge gained, and to share that with the Brilliant community.
