This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

Comments

Once again, today was a very full day. We started out with two symposiums about creating your own future and following your passions, in order to change yourself and the world. I also joined the seminar about world affairs, and there's only one word that I can think of that can describe it appropriately: wonderful! Watching the debate unfold, as both mentors and students weighed in on all kind of topics regarding today's world was simply amazing. So much food for the brain, I'm gonna get fat!

In the afternoon we visited the Autry Museum and the Zoo, although I feel we didn't have enough time to really get the best out of both visits. Still, we all had a look at the "behind the scenes" of the great world of museums, as some experts explained us how they choose the artifacts to exhibit and how they restore them.

Lesson of the day: You are the one and only person in charge for your future, and it's all up to you to decide what to become and which path to follow. Also, never get all your information about anything from a single source, as it will most likely be biased; always check from as many sources as you can, and learn how to analize the situation from that.

Day 4: Many things happened today:a little "debate" about "how to change the world" and possible carrers; a visit to the Autry museum and to the Zoo(although we could only see a snake and an armadillo); Two mini-sessions about Physics(Elementary particles and Dark matter) and Paleontology(with the main person behind the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park);More games!

At the time I was playing games(mainly chess), the Jurassic Park movie was being exhibited(for those who hadn't seen it already).

Wednesday, 18/6

The great thing was the Story Tribe.

First, we played an interesting warm-up game called "Kitty wants a corner", where everyone stands in a circle and one player will be the kitty, and he will ask someone "Kitty wants a corner" and one will reply "Not here, try my neighbour". During the process, other players will be switching places. If kitty gets a place while other switching places, the one who didn't get his place will then become the kitty.

After that, we will start decorating the centre. We just put a bowl of water with a pile of stones besides it. There are also some toys around the centre. The lovely mentor said this is where we can put our focus on. Then, anyone can go to the centre and grab a stone and put it into the bowl of water and said "I delicate this to ...", just like thanks someone for something.

Then, we will introduce ourselves and talk about our favourite snacks. I said I love chocolates, every kind of chocolates. Then, we will talk about our family and relatives. This is a great moment because in my opinion, we will get to know the connection between us to the society, or we will feel a great power like they are just beside us. For example, we will say "I am the son of ...", "I am the brother of" or "I am the nephew of ...".

Then, we will start telling our own story. Oh yes, before that, we made an agreement that nothing that is heard from this circle should be told to others who is not the member of the circle, everything is a secret among us. If you don't feel like talking, you can always welcome to pass. The great thing of this circle is, you can never messed up nor make it perfect.

Later, everyone will take out their note books and write something about the theme. The theme for today is "Something you don't know about me is ...". The rule is just write everything in your mind, non-stop, no grammar, no spelling. I wrote about friends. After we were done, everyone will take turns and read out their writings on the notebook.

The last part is everyone stands in a circle, grabbing neighbour's hands. We end the activity by speaking a phrase or a word that we thought it was most important in this circle.

The second interesting activity is making a dictionary with different language. This is not the part of the program but because we have many international adventurers from Mexico (Spanish), India (Hindi), Bangladesh (Bengali), Italy (Italian), Malaysia (Mandarin), Philippines (Philippine) and Brazil (Portuguese). Currently, I only remember "Hi, friends!" in Spanish is "Hola Amigo".
