Just curious about the leader-board...

I was just wondering: how does the leader-board work? From what I've noticed, the leader-board is based on:

1) The number of problems a user has solved (the more problems you've solved, the higher you are on the leader-board).

2) In the case of two users solving the same number of problems, the user who solved those problems earlier is higher on the leader-board (the faster, the better!)

Are my observations correct? If they are, I've noticed some inconsistencies on the leader-board.

This week I wanted to solve the problems as quickly as possible and I did. I solved all of the Level 4 Number theory & Algebra problems and was on top of the leader-board for a whole day (I felt so happy!!).

But the next day, for no reason at all, I kept getting bumped down! From 1 to 3, from 3 to 4, from 4 to 6. It seemed like I was getting bumped down by more recent problem solvers.

But the most confusing thing happened today. I got bumped up to 5 on the leader-board even though I did nothing! (well, what could I possibly do? I had already solved all the problems and didn't get selected to submit a solution)

I do remember one thing. I solved two unsolved Level 4 Geometry & Combinatorics problems today. Did that have something to do with me going up the leader-board in Number Theory? Are the leader-boards of the olympiad math categories connected somehow?

Another question: is solution submission a criterion for the leader-board? Are users who've submitted solutions to this week's problems higher on the leader-board?

I'd be really happy if you explain how the leader-board works and I think it would benefit a lot of users if the leader-board were more comprehensible.

Okay, I think I've figured it out! The leader-board is also based on lifetime points, isn't it? So when I solved the Geometry & Combinatorics problems, my lifetime points went up and so did I (along the leader-board)!

But if it is based on lifetime points, is it completely fair to relatively new users?

yeah the leaderboard is quite based on lifetime points.....you can see a monotonic sequence of lifetime points when you go along the lederboard,top to bottom..Now it's sunday,and I'm quite sure that all those on the leaderboard have already solved all the problems.but what I can't understand is how an user is at the top(number theory and algebra lvl 5 and geometry combinatorics level 4) with only 7380 points...

Yes, I also noticed that. That made me want to rethink about everything I knew about the leader-board. So the mystery remains: what is the leader-board based on?
