Just something to think about

I am a level 4 in geometry and Combinatorics and there are sometimes questions like : "How many positive integers less than 1000000 have the sum of their digits equal to 7?" a little difficult at first right, but what if someone( like me) came up with a program that would mechanically solve the problem for me...won't that defeat the purpose and expose a flaw in question setting

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

Remember, maths is to enjoy, not to score points. Otherwise it would have been called "business" instead of "mathematics". So, do it by yourself, try your best, don't use the program, and if you are not able to solve the question, then come back next week to see the solution.

I am creating the program in the first place

It is way more fun to solve it manually. If you want to solve problems with programming, there are plenty of other websites for that. And soon Brilliant will have them too, probably. But for now, try to solve it by hand.

Seriously? Don't post answers, even false ones.

People are reposting these Brilliant questions all over the internet seeking answers. We found s many of the same questions being reposted on Google+ Mathematics community. I also found a similar question like this one posted on CHEGG.com.
