Kickstarter on Brilliant!

Almost every week, we can see some user suggested feature on site, which most of the time we find them very useful. I think Brilliant should implement a feature like Kickstarter on their site. Essentially it's a voting system whereby users have 3 choices to choose from: :Strongly agree", "I'm indifferent", "Strongly disagree". And maybe add a (separate) discussion for each proposal.Examples for such topics include:

  1. Brilliant crazy thought section,
  2. My thoughts about solution writing..,

  3. Criteria of leaderboard!

On the other hand, I have somemore suggestion of my own (here are my previous suggestions):

Create a News Feed for the Challenge Masters to post whenever they have changed the user interface or any notable annoucement (basically like a changelog) so that the users will be notified of such changes. And should list them like this: StarCraft II version history or Firefox Releases. Examples include

Furthermore, When adding a discussion, users should label their topic as either (and their examples in link)

Thoughts?

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Totally agreed. We should also have live chat on brilliant with the challenge masters.

By the way, we may want to keep some of our queries private, instead of keep it public. So, through the feature live chat, we can achieve that. But instead of only live chatting with the challenge masters, how about extend it to live chat with other users?

Yea, maybe we could have a live chat bar on the side with different rooms that we can join. Rooms could be Public, or according to Brilliant Levels? , Math, Physics. We may also create our own rooms (chat groups) with other Brilliant users. :) That will be cool

The voting part convinced me, I agree on that! You just spoke my mind, Pi Han!

Thanks for the detailed feature request. To clarify a few things/add additional details that I am inferring from your requests:

  • Kickstarter idea: You would like a list of feature requests that is not governed by the regular discussions sorting algorithm. Meaning it just ranks all historical requests by total votes. Additionally, people should have the ability to down-vote or express indifference. Prior to that we would have to build a more prominent place to host it, the "feature requests" section of brilliant does not always get a good representative sample of our population. We will strongly take that idea into consideration as we evaluate ways to design a better mechanism for feedback on Brilliant.

  • Staff Announcement Log/More browse-able categories. These two requests are related in my opinion in that they both could be sort of met by making the discussions more easily browse-able by topic, so that you can efficiently dig up relevant historical conversations. Something like this will be coming soon, meaning the current system of tagging will get redone and there will be more obvious places where you can browse posts by tag, which will likely encourage people to tag their posts more.
