This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Have you heard of devil's algorithms,a set of moves that when repeated a number of times will return a solved cube.. Its really cool.

Yeah I do those moves on my rubik's cube, but I didn't know they were called devil's algorithm. It is a nice way to make an observer wonder that "what just happened",

@Aditya Parson Yeah I know that algo ..I usually do it on the last layer..(R,D,R,D..) If I am not mistaken.. But thats not the devil's algorithm..the devil's algorithm doesn't depend on an initial configuration ..I doubt anyone could actually execute a devil's algorithm unless its on a virtual cube on a super fast computer since the minimum number of times you have to repeat the algo is 34,326,986,725,785,600

@Thaddeus Abiy You have just to take care of symmetry when you do those moves. And that algorithm, I didn't know about it. Just misinterpreted.

Aditya Parson - 8 years, 1 month ago

@Thaddeus Abiy Even if you were some super human who could do 20 moves per sec,I doubt you would finish before the sun cools down..

Thaddeus Abiy - 8 years, 1 month ago

@Thaddeus Abiy And it is not just R,D,R,D.. You can also combine 3 different moves to do that.

Aditya Parson - 8 years, 1 month ago

The devil's algo is actually the shortest algos ever made and is quite memorizable//

Thaddeus Abiy - 8 years, 1 month ago

Yup, i too solved it in a go.... Amazing.

Garvil Singhal - 8 years, 1 month ago

easy find cfop method if you want to speed up the time to solve it

Eko Widianto - 8 years, 1 month ago

Algorithms too long. I prefer the rubik's cube official website solution

Nishanth Hegde - 8 years, 1 month ago

Manish, this website is just amazing. I solved the rubiks cube in one go after reading the algoritm though it took me a bit of time. Thank you.

i use cfop.. am sub 20.. single best is 13.32 (non lucky). trying to improve. :)

hemang sarkar - 8 years, 1 month ago

I want to introduce myself to cfop method . Can someone suggest better site for this?
