I was viewing other peoples' solved problems and viewing about 10 problems, solving 7 of them (all Algebra). Yet, my rating in Algebra went down from 2037 to 1998, just because they were others' problems. -.- Bug?
This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science
related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should
explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments
should further the discussion of math and science.
When posting on Brilliant:
Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

It's not a good issue, when only by viewing problems, our rating decreases. I often take a copy of the problems to solve later (I'm not available in front of my pc always), but my rating decreases. This must be changed.
I do the same. I print all the problems on monday mornings, so I can take my time solving them whenever I have free time between work or travelling from and to home. Unfortunately some weeks are so busy I don't have (or want to spend) enough time to solve the problems.
With the current system I have to judge in advance how much time I'll have, something that is impossible to do. It takes away a bit of the free and relaxing nature for me.
Not to the point that it becomes a problem, but it's still a shame.
Using the rating values that you stated, I see that you viewed 4 problems and answered the first 2 of them correctly, and didn't answer the last 2 (at the point of 1998). On Nov 17 (before the new set came out), I see that you looked at 9 problems and answered 5 correctly. In that span, your rating decreased by 54 points.
Because you were looking at much easier problems, getting them correct doesn't give you a big increase in rating, and wasn't sufficient to cover the large escrow from problems that you did not manage to solve. In fact, the second problem gave you a negligible increase in rating.
I'm going to assume the rating system is based on the same as in AoPS For The Win!. So viewing a problem would be like spectating a game, which should result in no loss. Now attempting a problem is like being in the game. So if you get the problem wrong, then you should lose rating. If you get the problem right, you should gain rating. I think the rating system should be changed to the one i described above.
Actually, though, by viewing a problem you are giving yourself the opportunity to solve it (and may well go away and have a good think about it). Giving a wrong answer is not the only indication that you have attempted a problem. I think your suggestion is less good than the actual system.
The current system discourages people with irregular workloads from even viewing problems. This is by far worse than people not answering questions, in my opinion.
Are you saying that you lost points from not answering questions that weren't in your problem set? I'm not sure what you mean by "other people's problems." If so, are you sure you didn't just lose points because you didn't solve enough of the questions that were in your problem set?
The same thing happened to me a while earlier, after which I stopped solving other people's problems. This thing has kind of demotivated me to go beyond my live challenge. This is sad.
Same thing happened here. When i solved a physics problem which was at a level higher than i am presently now i got promoted to higher level in physics but got leveled down in number theory part. The Brilliant team should take care of this.

When u view a question or sumbit a wrong answer, your rating would decrease

But I got almost all of them correct, so I should be gaining. . .

only green answer is correct.
