Levels and points system in Brilliant

I recently noticed that the level and points system doesn't appear for me. Does everyone have the same problem or is it just me?

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

As far as I know this is the same for everyone. I got in touch with support and they confirmed that the ratings progress graph on the stats page was removed on purpose, and I assume this is also the case for the levels on the profile "about" page. These features are still available on the version of the Android app I'm using, and hopefully we can see them return to the website soon as I'm missing them already!

I believe these features should remain because:

  • It provides useful, at-a-glance feedback on progress to all users.
  • Supplements, but should not be replaced by the more precise ratings available to premium users.
  • Gives a good indication of different users' abilities in problem solving (perhaps users should be able to hide their levels on their public profile if desired).
  • (Ratings graph) demonstrates progress over time so you can see how far you have come after practice.
  • Levels serve as a milestone or a target to work towards, whereas ratings (while more useful) are constantly changing and reaching a new number does not feel like such an achievement.

Of course, this is just my opinion and there are likely to be very good reasons why this has happened. I do, however, feel that it is quite a shame indeed if all of these features are gone for good.

Thanks for commenting. I too think that the brilliant points and levels system should not be removed permanently. It provides a lot of information on how good we are on a certain topic.
