Linear Inequalities

When dealing with inequalities, we often want to rearrange the statement to make it more clear how the numbers have been divided. We do this in a manner similar to solving equations with one important exception: when multiplying by a negative number, we must remember to change the direction of the inequality.

For example, $3- 2x > 5$ tells us something about $x$ . We can make the statement clearer in the following manner:

$\begin{aligned} 3-2x &> 5 \\ -2x &> 2 \\ x &< 1. \end{aligned}$
