Lower level physics problems submitted by other users

These days I am going through mechanics problems from level 1 to level 3. There are some serious issues which must be addressed about these I think. First, this guy submits many innovative problems and I think he works hard for creating problems. At the same time, I find that many times he posts wrong answers to his questions and doesn't even respond to disputes. As an example look at this problem. His problems are making my rating go down day by day and I am in 3rd level now. I am really surprised that staff hasn't looked into this issue so far.

Second thing is about units. I saw few low level problems where just to trick solver, unnecessary units like Mg (its megagram.. not milligram! ) are used. I think as far as physics is concerned, brilliant should make it compulsory to use standard units in all problems (like m/sec for speed). I hope that brilliant would take this issue seriously.

Thank you

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

I will search those problems. Give me some time. But what about the problem which I posted?

I agree with you. Unless I've misread.

@Josh Silverman See this one also..

@Josh Silverman There were 2 more problems but I am now unable to find them. One was about relation between energy of electron and wavelength if emitted light where direct proportionality was taken and other was about elliptical room.

Hi Snehal. Thanks for voicing these concerns. Sue, just posted a few Notes addressing some of the issues surround the rating system and problem quality control. Check them out here:
