It's interesting that you wrote about Etorre Majorana, of all people. I consider him as one of the great "practically unknown" physicists of all time. His works has had an enormous impact on modern particle physics theory---even right up to the recent discovery of Weyl fermions, and yet he is almost never mentioned. Kudos for throwing a spotlight on Etorre!

As you've suggested in your article, even though his sudden disappearance has been attributed to suicide, I don't consider it likely. He was, after all, a really eccentric man, as you've said. Who knows whatever happened to him. I think had he not disappeared at a particularly bad time in history (during the height of Italian fascism just before the outbreak of WWII), his works would have been much more well remembered by laymen. But people just forgot about him because of the explosion of events that followed.

So English is a coming soon version :) Second, Marathi is my first language and I find that though people around me keep asking me many questions, they find it difficult to read English articles which I recommend them and the corresponding literature in this language is next to nothing. So I again apologize for this, but I am simultaneously translating all those articles in English and will post them soon.

@Michael Mendrin – Seriously, though, Snehal, what made you decide to do an article on Etorre Majorana? I first learned about him because his name "Majorana" (like as in Majorana spinors) kept popping up everywhere in the mathematics of particle physics--and I hadn't ever heard of any physicist by the name "Majorana". So I was intrigued about who was this guy and looked it up.

Yes, it can be difficult to read in a language that you were not familiar with. I had a few books where the equations were more important than the text, and so I could just ignore the text.

@ – "Snehal" ;) So as you said, Majorana is one of those forgotten guys who have actually made quite important contributions to science. As far as my blog is concerned, I always write about things which are not so famous but are important nevertheless. Some people requested me to write about relativity for example. But I won't. There does exist literature about relativity in Marathi and all educated people have at least heard about relativity at some point of their life. Thus, Majorana's life fits into the blog's protocol and I wrote about this forgotten hero.
