Math+Poems=Real Beauty\mathbb{Math + Poems = Real \ Beauty}

Hello Brilliantians! Now since 2018 is coming to a close, I am going to hold a Math Poetry Contest.

The Rules and Regulations (and some schedules):

\bulletYour posted problem must at least have a poetic sense. As in ''e e is Euler's number, with no blunder. Find it's decimal value (to 2 d.p.), only it shows the virtue.''

\bullet You have the right to choose what type of poem you want to write (Acrostic, Sonnet, Haiku, Limerick etc)

Note It depends if you want the entire poem to be your problem (as shown above) or just a bit of your problem

\bullet Inappropriate content MUST not be included

\bullet You may publish your problem on Brilliant or in this note.

\bullet When you publish your problem on Brilliant, write "This is my entry to the Math Poetry Contest"[link to this note] in the problem.

\bullet The contest ends on 1st Jan 2019 and late entries will not be considered.

\bullet You may post unoriginal problems but make sure that they have not been posted on Brilliant.org

\bullet You may post 3 problems at maximum

\bullet Results will be announced on 8th Jan 2019

\bullet The upvote system will be used to see who has the best poem problem! (You cannot downvote a poem problem if you dislike it. You may not upvote or downvote a problem you do not like ie. you are neutral and you MUST upvote your own poem.)

Note: Please remember that this is NOT a popularity vote!

So get writing problems and

BEST OF LUCK POETS AND POETESSES!

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Comments

Here is my entry.

David Vreken - 2 years, 7 months ago

Here is my poem problem. Hope you like it.

I made a change saying that you cannot upvote your own problem.

All comments are automatically upvoted by the commenter. Voting for your own comment wouldn't change the results that much either; at least, I don't believe it would.

@Blan Morrison But it may break ties and that is why I want to start with everyone neutralized

Mohammad Farhat - 2 years, 7 months ago

@Mohammad Farhat I'm not saying you are wrong, but rather it will be incredibly hard to get everyone to cooperate.

Blan Morrison - 2 years, 7 months ago

@Blan Morrison I think that you should change the rule that everyone should upvote their own problem. It fulfills the same purpose, and at the same time it is much easier to have everyone cooperate.

Jerome Te - 2 years, 7 months ago

@Blan Morrison Changed the rules

Mohammad Farhat - 2 years, 7 months ago

Here is my poem!

I have to admit. THE SOLUTION-PROBLEM POEM WAS GOING THE EXTRA MILE!!!!

Mohammad Farhat - 2 years, 7 months ago

Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

David Stiff - 2 years, 7 months ago

I SAID NO DOWNVOTES! Someone better remove this downvote

Mohammad Farhat - 2 years, 7 months ago

I guess any downvotes, accidental or otherwise, can just be ignored in the final tally.

David Stiff - 2 years, 7 months ago

Here's my first submission!

Blan Morrison - 2 years, 7 months ago

May I write a problem but it does not count? Any thoughts about it? @David Vreken?

Mohammad Farhat - 2 years, 7 months ago

Yeah, that's fine; it's your contest. Maybe get someone else to vote on it, though. What if we use the upvote system in order to see whose poem/problem is the best?

Blan Morrison - 2 years, 7 months ago

I thought about that but I thought that it was too late to use the system. Well I will make the edits in the note!

Mohammad Farhat - 2 years, 7 months ago

You must like my sonnet. The more likes, the better.

Jerome Te - 2 years, 7 months ago

You copied a bit of David Vreken.

Mohammad Farhat - 2 years, 7 months ago

It’s actually inspired by his problem. And I feel it doesn’t matter if they were both sonnets. They were somehow different.

Jerome Te - 2 years, 7 months ago

David Vreken is crowned! Congratulations!

Mohammad Farhat - 2 years, 5 months ago

@Ram Mohith, would you like to take part?

Mohammad Farhat - 2 years, 7 months ago

Yes

Ram Mohith - 2 years, 7 months ago

You have a lot of time so no pressure

Mohammad Farhat - 2 years, 7 months ago

Here's my second submission!

Blan Morrison - 2 years, 7 months ago

@Mohammad Farhan , what about free verse?

Lucia and Emma - 2 years, 7 months ago

That's a bit of a stretch. Most poets don't consider free verse to be poetry.

Blan Morrison - 2 years, 7 months ago

If we already posted 3 problems and made a problem which we think is better, can we substitute one of our problems for that problem? Like remove one problem for a new problem before January 1, 2019?

Jerome Te - 2 years, 8 months ago

Yes you can delete your work if you want

Mohammad Farhat - 2 years, 7 months ago

You can also remove the link from one of the problems too without deleting the entire problem.
