NMTC 2K14 Is over...How well did you fare?

Hi Everyone! The 2014 NMTC (prelim) just concluded about an hour back in most indian cities. This competition known for its wacky and non-routine problems is quite akin to the Putnam Lowell competition as the median scores in this competition too are almost zero. (Because of the heavy negative marking). 2014 paper was a mix of happiness, sadness, shock and surprise to me. Actually it was a happy/joyous paper because it was quite an easy one ...(not too easy though)...sorrowful because I DIDN'T do my BEST.- I could have easily scored 20+ :(. Shocking because it contained some totally easy problems and surpising because despite it being easier than prev.papers, it was totally not-solvable in 2 hrs. ( unless you are truly a genius). Owing to my illness, My speed was badly reduced. I was able to attempt only 19 questions, though I could have easily notched up 3-4 more ones . Final score-19 (20 if +1 marks is given for Bonus) :'(

The answer wasn't matching with the options, though all the options were approximately correct..

@Satvik Golechha – No i got option d exact and I will post my solution to my posted problem(NMTC 2014-2(Junior level)). But my friend also got a correct answer 520/7 but not matching the options. I am not sure why multiple answers are found. I will think about it.

@Mietantei Conan – I also got 520/7. And all answer keys are saying this question is bonus...

Nope its 400 exactly. ANyway @Siddharth G - how much are you getting? What is the expected cut-off at your center? Where did you write it? What are your friends getting?

@Krishna Ar – Looks like 16.5. I gave it at my local FIITJEE centre(southdelhi). Don't know about their marks yet, probably tomorrow, due to my miserable paper, I came home without much discussion. Is the cutoff centre-wise?

For the 15th Q, the area of the larger triangle is 405 and the smaller one is 5.625. Subtracting, I got 399.375

@Siddharth G – Well it's quite fine for qualifying.. Yes, its center-wise. Its a huge plus for those who gave it from their school like me, I just had to you know get above 10 and I got 10 marks more than needed. You must also keep in mind that only 10% would move on to the next round. So Cutoff would be decided by only how the people who wrote in the same center as you did. Well , for 15...you dont need to find areas of small/large and all that...only thin' you need to do is- Find ar(pllgm)=720. Then you get ar(tri.gdc)=640*0.5=320. Thus it is 720-320=400. I hope it was clear

@Krishna Ar – However, the competition in an institution like FIITJEE, is higher than a one in an average school. I think about 200 students would have given the test. Acc. to me, ar(gdc) = $630*0.5$ = $315$

@Siddharth G – Sid, if you use similarities, you will get it only as 640. Not 630. Donno how you got this..can you explain?

@Krishna Ar – Sorry, took the wrong ratio. Same reason why I got 399.375

@Siddharth G – Ah...It's fine. Well , I think AMTI will accept this perhaps.

@Siddharth G One of my friends also got 399.375, but I got 400. Also, Brilliant will accept both, and so should the AMTI.

With this answer key I got 25

Congon! 25 is a really cool score in NMTC prelims.

OH No! when did this happen..I fORGOT!!..from the past 3 years I'd been writing..alwayz got to $2^{nd}$ level ,,wrote RMO..then came back..but this time shifting school and being busy in hosting cultural comp...I totally fORGOT! hope they have it once again...its really nice platform for me to make a lot of friends..for the questions they are easy in $1^{st}$ level but quite difficult nxt step...As for the past 5 years I've been shifting every year I get to see some of my old friends...and even some new ones ..whom I've not yet seen like @Krishna Ar well I wish myself better luck nxt time... You're talking about question 7, not 8. And the 2 values are 12 and 6.

@Aditya Raut @Dinesh Chavan - How much are you guys scoring in INTER level ?

I made some silly mistakes, otherwise I expected my score to be $29/30$ ,but now it's gonna be less than that .....too less....

For example, I factorized $27000001$ in half minute, using

$300^3+1^3=(300+1)((300+1)^2-3\times 300 \times 1)\\=301\times (301^2-30^2 )= (301)(301+30)(301-30)=7\times 43\times 271\times 331$

And after this, i wrote their sum as $642$ in stead of $652$

At one place, I introduced $\dfrac{1}{2}$ in heron's formula which is not there!!!

At one place, they asked double of that angle (ans being $225^\circ$ ), and I wrote the angle( $112.5^\circ$ )

Once in my rough work, i saw my own $6$ as $9$ , and wrote an answer that was greater than right one by 3.

One of them I left unattempted ,but later got it, just after giving the answer sheet back !

so sad right? LOL ! Few more mistakes like that, for which someone should slap me .... But nvm, that's a part and parcel of life :P

@Aditya Raut – Nope...In your case it was silly mistakes, in my case- I could have easily scored 5/6 marks more than what I'm getting (20)...so for me both are the same...everyone makes silly mistakes, I'm sure that you are selceted

@Krishna Ar – And if I don't I will find your house whether it maybe in any part of the world, I'll come to give you a party :P

Hmm... Seems like a tie! here are mine-
-- I found the answer for 16, went wrong with verification, and skipped the question.
-- In the AP formula, I divided by 2 twice!
-- Wrongly added four two digit numbers.
-- Took the wrong ratio in similarities.
-- $37*2=39$ !
-- Multiplied both side by $0$

In Part A , ques.9 ........It is not clearly seen as EF = FC...........It should also be bonus........It is seen as EF-FC....

How much are you scoring?...No it is a very clear question
