I used some simple analitical geometry and get the side of the square is 38 and thus the area is (38)2=964

yes
how did you do it
Just put the triangle in the Cartesian diagram with the coordinates are (0,0),(4,0) and(0,8)

(0,0),(0,x),(x,0)and(x,x) with (x,x) lies in the hypotenuse .
The largest square in the triangle is when the square's coordinates areLog in to reply
Log in to reply
(x,x) lies in the hypotenuse, it lies in the line y=−2x+8. Then x=−2x+8 3x=8 x=38 So the side is 38

Could you elaborate his solution @Calvin Lin
Log in to reply
You should comment on his solution and ask him to clarify.
This the procedure to do this kind of a sum:
Let the side of the required square be a.
Length of the remaining parts of the two legs are respectively 8−a and 4−a.
So the total area which is 21.a.(8−a)+a2+21.a.(4−a) will be equal to 16 (the area of the whole triangle)
Solving the equation you get x=38
and hence the area is 964

Rajdeep bhaiya in which school u r currently studying.is it worth to join a dummy school for 11th and 12th
Log in to reply
It is really difficult to answer such questions. Such things are based on school to school , child to child so you really have to decide it yourself.

PLS REPLY
@Rajdeep Dhingra i think you have done a mistake their magnitudes have to be different pls reply if you got a new intuition or thought process behind the problem .the same ques was published by resonance coaching in their test paper for jee advanced
what i should do to get the answer of that vector problem in my book .i don't know how to post a multi correct answer type questons
@Rajdeep Dhingra I want to buy EM Purcell and Morin Elcetricity and Magnetism in Paperback edition or to download it ;hardcover edition is there or pls bhaiya just share it if you have through internet i.e provide me the link
