Points: Should they be implemented?

Although they don't really matter too much, points are still a good incentive to help with solving problems. In addition, some of the prizes are pretty cool :)

Vote up the below comment if you advocate adding points back, while vote down the below comment if you advocate removing points, like what we have now.

If you would like, please provide additional reasons for the implementation/non-implementation of points.

As Brilliant mathematics said,

"We are still evaluating the fate of points."

Thanks!

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Because of the way you phrased your comment, there's not going to be vote-downs here. This is because there isn't anyone who believes that points are stupid or bad and should be abandoned. There are, however, many people who don't care whether the points system and prizes are there or not. And I'm one of them.

All I care about is solving problems. If there are problems, I'm more than happy. And there are problems! A lot of them! According to me, this new layout has a more dynamic feel to it. You have this continuous flow of problems. Yes, it may seem unorganized at first. But after you get used to it a little, you'll start to enjoy this a layout a lot more. The staff said that this is beta feature and there are certain issues that need to be fixed. But all in all, I really like this new layout because I find myself spending a lot more time on Brilliant because of this [I don't know if this is a good thing].

Bottom line, I don't have a problem if they decide to bring back the points [they probably won't; because a lot of features in this layout won't work with points] and I am completely okay without points. As long as I can solve problems, I'm okay.

If there aren't going to be many dowenvotes, why did they remove the points system in the first place?

The way I see it is that there are people who don't care and people who never wanted the points to go away in the first place :)
