Respected Sirs and Dear Brilliantians,
I do write this note on behalf of my friend Rajdeep Dhingra, and this note is an extension to one of his notes where he asked to provide some advice about NSEJS and other Science Olympiads.
Firstly, Please suggest some resources and Worksheets on Brilliant which would improve our Problem solving Strategies and olympiad skills in Physics, also please mention the Prerequisite knowledge.
Please do the same for Chemistry and Biology, by providing some questions and worksheets on Brilliant.
Mathematics:
Please suggest some prerequisite knowledge and kindly create some Worksheets(according to levels, so that we can progress gradually) which would increase our Problem solving strategies and Help us learn more.
We would be extremely indebted if some kind help is provided.
Thanks,
Swapnil Das

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

Physics is often confused with difficult mathematics, (you may also check mostly level 5 problems on brilliant.org) but according to me physics is a different branch of science which is needed to be understood in its purest form (The concept). Problem solving may involve mathematics. For understanding physics and concepts you need to be a great thinker and have strong imagination. Physicists and in fact scientist are often referred as philosophers as well.
I am creating conceptual problems on physics and posting slowly and steadily as and when possible (So keep following me :P ), Meanwhile you may refer to many books available in the market on these exams and start learning and preparing.!! Previous years exam papers will also help you understand the level and course coverage as well!!

Please see the QP and make a set or it. Also there are no books in the market or this. Please suggest some(for problem Solving). I would be thankful if U could make a set ASAP.

As i have searched on net
Recommended Books for NSEJS:
NCERT books of Phy, Chemistry, Maths and Biology (IX and X and selective topics of class XI)
Concept of Physics - HC Verma
Higher Algebra - Hall and Knight
Elementary Mathematics - Dorofeev , Potapov and Rozov

NSEJS is not that difficult, i cleared it last year mainly because of math, you will definitely get full or close to full marks in Math. So the topics of concern are PCB , I used mainly my coaching sheets for that , but if your coaching doesnt provide that you should do 11th and 12th class ncert for these subjects that will be more than enough. Also try solving previous year questions. I believe you can clear nsejs very easily, the problem is 2nd stage i.e. INJSO. It involves subjective questions which are of high difficulty level. Just for information , if u clear nsejs you will be eligible for INAO(Junior Astronomy Olympiad), you can clear that too if you are good at physics and Math. Just do 11-12NCERT. I Hope you will qualify the first stage easily. PS - I couldn't clear INJSO. And last year's cutoff was a little above 100out of 240marks in NSEJS.Math is only asked in first stage and not in other stages.
The JSO is the most broad spectrum olympiad as you have to be good at all 4 :PCMB You just cant do 11th and 12th syllabus fully, its very difficult , I couldnt and I didnt. One may say, Kushagra Juneja (Gold medalist ) did it and thus its advisable, but what I'll tell you is first make your basics of 9th and 10th grounded very well. Do AS MUCH of advanced chem as possible. Rest , the path will be clear!
for biology try books from 'cengage learning' i find them informative

Hey, red come to my mboard pls
I am too a 9th grader. Which books should I use for Physics ,Chemistry ?and if possible then please tell about biology also.
I will hardly recommend u hc Verma physics. Prepare from it. It is really a good book.

For Physics You could refer to University Physics by freedman for theory( It's a calculus based book so having some knowledge of it might be beneficial for you) Then For problems You could move towards HC Verma Concepts Of Physics Volume 01 and 02. Then for chemistry start with ncert 11th and 12th and study it thoroughly then Raymond Chang chemistry might turn as a bane for you ( For some chapters this book is just fantabulous) For physical chemistry RC mukherjee certain topics will be enough for you, Then For Bio Ncert 9,10,11,12 And Then move towards Campbell biology for some hot topics such as genetics, cell biology,Physiology etc. For Maths Solve Your coaching sheets and that would be enough. For Syllabus Try to analyse past year papers Of NSEJS and Injso Like For Physics Mechanics( Except Rotational motion and Some mechanical properties all) , Then Study Waves and Electro dynamics as well as Optics( Ray optics only) For chemistry Focus on physical mainly and From Inorganic Chemical bonding, periodic table and s,p block( Just theory). Apart from all these solve your ncert 9th as well as 10th. Best of luck For IOQJS
Sorry @Rajdeep Dhingra and @Swapnil Das for late response. I am not a biology master and I don't know who tell you such peculiar things.
I would try to help you. For Biology first you must clear the basics. For that learn from NCERT class 9/10/11.Most important chapters are Cell , Diversity , Tissues , Life processes.
There are many books that are especially for NSEJS (I don't know which is the best so I won't recommend ) Solve them. And remember to solve as many previous year paper you can.
You will be able to manage physics , Maths and chemistry quite well.
And try to help me in Mathematics Olympiads. @Krishna Ar , @Ritwik Jain Help us (especially in bio)

Between I dont think the level of exam will be that difficult that you will need to solve Irodov. Try to cover maximum course rather then covering one portion from many books.
I believe at your level HC Verma should suffice any competition, If you are thorough with it..!!

Hi! This year I gave NSEJS and am expecting close to 190 marks in it. I am from MP and my coaching teachers have assured me that I will get selected for INJSO. But the problem is, I have exceeded the age limit. I spoke to my teachers regarding this and they told me that I will be allowed to write INJSO but will not be allowed to attend the OCSC. They told me that I will be taken up for Astronomy olympiad. Does this really happen? If yes, then how to prepare for astronomy?
You will give INAO jr , but even if you clear it you won't be allowed to attend 3rd stage for it so no use of giving.
how i prepare math for nsejs?
Hello,I am in class 9 and have about 1 year for NSEJS AND INJSO how should i start my preparation for stage 1 and stage 2.

Hi Swapnil, Can you please guide me for NSEJS, hope now you have enough knowledge about it. I am 7th grader. Pls. guide me for topics in Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
