Problem of The Week for Mathematics.

I just wanted to give a suggestion of adding the Problem of the Week FOR MATHEMATICS . I personally feel that it will be more popular than that of Physics. Though, it will consume time, but it sounds exciting . Please take this into consideration.... Can we know why the Problem of the Week was closed???

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

And in this, we could keep big prizes for the best solution submitted.

Gavril, it's a nice idea to have a problem of the week for mathematics and Calvin sir can provide it to us if he isn't overburdened.

Soham Dibyachintan - 8 years, 2 months ago

i support.

Bhargav Das - 8 years, 2 months ago

Great idea!

Victor Waknin - 8 years, 2 months ago

i agree

Ahmed Abdelaal - 8 years, 2 months ago

ya that will be great

Nabila Hafizah Sulthana - 8 years, 2 months ago

Also, we should be asked to submit a solution, otherwise here also some cheaters will succeed.... and those who solve the question and don't give the solution, some serious action should be taken towards them.

Hi all,

We will consider bringing back a problem of the week for mathematics. We will evaluate our workflow and see if we can implement it without sacrificing productivity on other expansions to the website. If we can we will do it. We will let you know if our plans to bring back problem of the week become more concrete.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear

hope it comes early

Are you suggesting this instead of physics? If it's that, then my answer is a big NO. (Otherwise I say: great idea!)

I just want a Problem of the week for Mathematics and i don't think they'll bring it back for Physics as there must be some valid reason, why they closed it.

Ohhh, I didn't know there was a physics "problem of the week". Now I understand what you say. You've my support!

Josep Burgaya Pujols - 8 years, 2 months ago

I placed the same query before the staff in a thread..................they said that it was not attracting much attention.....so they removed it.

@Edward Elric They can't do like this. If a discussion has more than 20 votes , it is something...

Garvil Singhal - 8 years, 2 months ago

nice idea =D

Mark Kevin Aguilar - 8 years, 2 months ago

If the mods won't do it, we can do it (w/o pts) in a discussion, maybe?

Matthew Lipman - 8 years, 1 month ago

And it should be an open problem

Rushikesh Jogdand - 8 years, 2 months ago

So that when you solve the problem Brilliant won't need to award you, Clay Mathematical Institute will do that for them?

Abhishek De - 8 years, 2 months ago

Are awards greater than the skill of solving.(I didn't think they are)

Rushikesh Jogdand - 8 years, 2 months ago

@Rushikesh Jogdand Oh my! Don't you understand any sarcasm? It was a rhetorical answer to your foolish comment that the problem of the week should be an open problem. But I now think you don't understand the meaning of open problem, so I'll make everything clear for you.

An open problem is a problem that is real tough and no one knows their solution. Even the big daddies of mathematics are stumped by it. There are monetary prizes reserved for some famous open problems by Clay Mathematical Institute. So, I said such a thing.

Good Day,

A.De

Hey,did u get dat 4rm Manorama Yearbook as well? I googled for the problems after reading abt them. Now I'd definitely try to solve them out :))))

Edward Elric - 8 years, 2 months ago

how to post my solved answers
