Problem with the answers!!

This note is concerned with everyone on brilliant . I have been solving problems in Mechanics section which are sometimes ambiguous or their answer is not correct. For an instance , this problem. The answer has been rounded off without informing. There are times when value of acceleration due to gravity isn't mentioned and what u use is different from the one used in answer (it has happened to me with both 10 and 9.8).I even reported the problems but there was no reply from brilliant. This results in unnecessary decrease in ratings!I request the staff to look into the matter.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Hi Pankaj, this occurred because the problem creator decided to round off the answer without stating that in the question.

Thanks for reporting problems which are unclear, it helps us to ensure that the content on Brilliant is high quality and useful to other members.

Thanks for replying Suyeon. But will that change give me the ratings I lost?

Pankaj Joshi - 6 years, 10 months ago

We have fixed this question and awarded you the points and rating changes accordingly. This arose because the problem creator decided to round the answer, without stating that in the question.

We have no control over the values of constants that people use, which is why we encourage them to state these values as necessary. When you see such problems, please report them as "the problem is not clearly stated", and ask the creator to state the value of physical constants that were used.
