As always, we're going to continue showing off the hard work these members of the community put in over the last week, so Brilliant will featuring these quizzes in topic listings and social media. Now that those announcements have been made, we're moving on to our third Problem Writing Party!
The party starts right now (February 15th, 2016) and will last for the next two weeks. Throughout the two weeks, we will be focusing on writing awesome problems for the topics listed in quizzes that need your help on the publish page.
To join, submit as many problems as you want to these listed topics. At the end of the party, Brilliant staff will be picking the best 5-10 problems for each topic. These problems will then be immortalized and formed into a challenge quiz. If we pick your problem, then you can brag to your friends because it will be displayed on Brilliant forever!
Use this note to
Ask questions about the party or brainstorming ideas from Brilliant staff.
Share links to great relevant problems.
Bounce your ideas off each other to help formulate the best problem you can.
To be selected, problems you submit should be fun and challenging to a student in levels 1-3 for the given topic.
The topics of problem submission for this party can be found by navigating over to the Brilliant publish page and checking under the quizzes that need your help section. Just click the contribute button next to the topic you want make a submission to.
Happy writing and continue to party on!

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

Guys , this is the list of wikis that need contributions!
Hello, nice to see such great events taking place in the community.I'm joining the party :)
Conical hemisphere
Logging inequalities
You can't resist solving this!
Branched resistance
A sphere and a cube
Logging inequalities 2
Logging inequalities 3
Happy solving!
Whoa this is a lot of problems! Logging inequalities 2 makes me want to cry, but I can see putting logging inequalities 3 in a challenge quiz. ;)
Yeah,Logging inequalities 2 seemed unsuitable for a level 3 challenge quiz so I posted Logging inequalities 3.Thanks for selecting it :-)
I have a problem involving resistors. This is an old one, though.
Whoa this looks really hard! I'll be sure it goes in a difficult resistors quiz. Thanks! Keep throwing your fun resistors questions here (easy or hard).
Thank you!
Wow. Good News @Andrew Ellinor :)
Here are my 3 new questions for Surface Area. Will definitely add more in due course of time.
1) Percentage Increase
2) Cuboid cut into cubes
3) Cube Surface Area Increase
These awesome graphics always add value to a problem. I know I'll be picking at least one of these (or maybe all three). Thanks Vighnesh!
⌣¨ Will try to add more in the near future
Here are 2 problems that I have made:
Resistors - 666
Graph theory - Bipartite Graph(s)
More problems are on their way!
I'm loving the bipartite graph problem. That works both for computer science and combinatorics. ;)
For resistors, I'd suggest my Short Circuit? and (much harder) Path of Less Resistance.
Actually, this is my old one on Algebra-Logarithm, but I still enjoy it: Out of Reach
Log in to reply
I like it! I think this would belong more in Exponential Inequalities, given that you're solving something like 2x>k. Granted, you have to take a log to figure out x, but for Logarithmic Inequalities, I think there should be a log already present in the problem.
Thanks, Andrew. I just came up with a new one in Tricky Quadratic Logarithm. Hope you'll like it, too. ;)
My surface area question.
Cube-Sphere
Thanks Lee! Your questions are always so entertaining, especially with the diagrams you provide. How'd you make this graphic, paint again?
I used an online generator.
I am sorry to have missed the previous party ⌢¨. I was able to do this for this party:
Beautiful resistors
Beautiful resistors - 2
Cubes form cuboid
Due to my exams, that's all I can help, will surely contribute more in the next party!
I have few old ones, you may consider this and this too. Thanks! ⌣¨
Log in to reply
Don't worry about it Sravanth. Every contribution counts.
Thanks! ⌣¨
I'll start making more problems tomorrow, here is one for logarithmic inequalities
Log in to reply
Good one! I wasn't even thinking about the discontinuity that occurs. This makes for a fun, challenging problem for sure. This will definitely wind up in a quiz. Thanks! Feel free to throw more into this note. :)
Thank you a lot, here is one for Rotational Kinetic Energy
Log in to reply
Calculus of Parametric Equations
Here is one forIn my problems made before I found one that might be good for Surface Area
Log in to reply
Here is my question on logarithmic inequalities.
Whoa, level 5! I never expected to see one of those in logarithmic inequalities. If we have enough hard logarithmic inequalities problems, I think it would be great to make a level 4-5 challenge quiz for this chapter!
More coming. These are for calculus of parametric equations.
Ahhh, these are great Hobart. @Arjen Vreugdenhil already wrote a beautiful solution to one of them. That makes it more likely to wind up in a challenge quiz. ;)
Here is one for mechanics: Spinning Skater.
Perfect. This one belongs in a quiz for sure. Thanks as always, Arjen! Keep them coming if you've got them. :)
For Geometry Circles 1 And Circle 2And Calculus Happy nightmare
Log in to reply
Hi Refaat, these are great and I'll make sure they get to the right quiz a some point, but currently this problem writing party is focused on these topics
My problems for Resistors and Surface area : Pipe is that , Shocker! .
Both great. I think we're even featuring one on social media. ;)
Thanks
For surface area:
This isn't rocket science, it's rocket math!
Ohh yeah, this is a winner. Very creative.
Andrew likes Resistors
You're right, I do like resistors -w-w-
My third surface area question.
Cube Sliced In Half
Root Approximation: Do you know Soumava's algorithm?
My question on Calculus-Parametric Equations is here: Time Zero.
Do you know what happens at the dawn of time?
Another new one of mine on Geometry-Surface Area: Colorful Prisms.
Enjoy! ;)
Another surface area problem : Ratio of surface areas
My new question on Geometry-Surface Area has come: Pyramidal Mystery.
Enjoy! ;)
For Limits :
Easy Limits 2 and Easy Limits
Sorry, but the selection of problems for limits of functions is already done.
okay :(
This is my question for kinematics- Three runners One winner. Hope you like it
Log in to reply
Thanks for having a will to contribute to wiki party Lakshya! But unfortunately , kinematics does not fall in the list of wikis that need contribution this time.I just post the list of desired wikis above.
This is my new problem on Combinatorics-Data Presentation: Have you got health insurance?
It's kind of mixture of basic statistics, too. Suits for anyone who's interested in insurance company. ;)
Nice! I was hoping we could finally create the data presentation quiz. I'm afraid some people find it boring, but you definitely know how to make it fun with these kinds of problems.
Thanks. It was kind of difficult to make an easy problem fun to play with, but glad you like it. ;)
This is my new one on Algebra-Logarithm Inequality: Tricky Quadratic Logarithm.
Surely you won't need your calculator if you can spot a trick in this one. ;)
Ahhh, I spot the trick. I'll keep it a secret though. ;)
Oh, you already saw it. This is what math problem in Thai class looks like. Not a piece of cake, right? ;)
Another surface area (may be too easy?)
Find the box tops
No such thing as too easy! I'll make sure it finds a home.
Thanks! I appreciate it.
For resistors..
Is this simple ratio and proportion?
On bridges
Here is my Surface Area problem, I will come up for another ASAP
Square and Triangle
Here is my entry (at last)
Resistors: Cantor Equivalent
Surface Area: Dimples
Here's a yummy question on Geometry-Surface Area: Some Orange?.
Feel free to taste it. ;P
A palatable question indeed.
Thanks. I got the idea when I saw oranges in the mall. Lol...
For rotational kinetic energy:
Slide, Hook, Roll (an older problem)
Flywheel
Square it away
Here are two more problems:
Surface Area - Surface Area of a Molecule
Data Presentation - Where have the Jelly Beans gone?
And here's one from the last party:
Data Presentation - Jon's Hypothesis
Sorry I couldn't participate in the second problem writing party due to exams. Now that they are over, I can finally participate in this party :) Here is an easy problem to start with.
Thanks Svatejas! I hope you continue participating in this party and future parties.
My new resistor problem : Can't Resist.
More problems!
Root Approximation - Quintic Pi Polynomial
Logarithmic Inequalities - Tens everywhere
Log in to reply
Those coefficients are delightful. Definitely makes the problem fun to try! :)
Not sure why the logarithmic inequality problem is proving to be so hard but people love it!
My second surface area question.
Turning Cuboids Into A Cube
Awesome Surface Area problems....
Thanks! I'll make more in the future.
Here is the question on Logarithmic inequalities.
Excellent Rishik! This question is perfect for the level 1-2 quiz we're trying to create.
Hi! @Andrew Ellinor i missed the last party but i really want to contribute to this one so here's a problem involving resistors. Resistors tend to infinty please try this problem and tell me your views about it :)
Hi Racchit, thanks for your problem! I think the problem is great (infinite resistors are always fascinating). I might recommend trying to have only one true statement so that you can put your question in multiple choice format next time. Currently it's just a little hard to read. ;)
thanks for the advice :)
Too many twos
What's with these logs
Cool problems !! @Vighnesh Shenoy
Thanks!
How about February 29 though? It's a leap year this year...
I agree hahaha
got another problem in geometry, surface area - how much paint do you need?
Thanks Margaret! Don't forget, you can always use the formatting
[How much paint do you need?](https://brilliant.org/problems/how-much-paint-do-you-need/)
so that your link appears like this:How much paint do you need?
That is very helpful. Thank you very much@Andrew Ellinor and I will do so for the rest of my problems.
Hi @Andrew Ellinor, Here is my set of problems: (I will edit this and include 6 problems finally) Do check them out and let me know your views on them,
Numerical Methods
Inequality
I like the Soumava's algorithm question! I think we'll end up using that one because we don't have many root approximation questions. However, the inequality problem you submitted doesn't involve any logarithms! :P
Log in to reply
Thanks a lot, @Andrew Ellinor Sir.
P.S. I will add a few more questions I reckon.
P.P.S. I submitted the inequality problem for Algebra. Was is necessary btw to make it a logarithmic inequality? I will post one too, in that case.
publish page.
Yep. You can see what topics we need on theHere's my easy new question on Geometry-Surface Area: Blue or Red.
It's quite illusive actually. ;)
Haha, wouldn't have expected that as the answer.
Yeah, that's what I thought, too. Look can be deceptive.
Here are my entries.....
Geometry.
Electric Resistors.
Human Resistance.
Nice Party..........Enjoyed many sums....
Great questions! I especially like your resistor entries.
Thanks Sir!! I am glad that you liked those..............
My fourth surface area question.
Ground Into Atoms
3.14159geon 1
3.14159geon 2
Once there were cubes and spheres, a problem for surface area. :)
Thanks Efren! I'd be careful though. You might need to edit your problem statement. You said the answer takes the form (A/B)^n, but (1/2)^3 and (1/8)^1 are of the same form, are they not?
Oops. You're right. My bad!
Another new one on Combinatorics-Data Presentation: Fruit Lovers.
What is your favorite fruit? ;)
My fifth surface area question.
Quite A Long Way Up
This is my easy one on Combinatorics-Data Presentation: Shall we go shopping?.
Probably too easy though. ;)
This is a bit off the beaten path, but it involves Calculus of parametrized curves: Tangential Curve.
(More or less the same problem is Tangential Network #1, but it does not explicitly refer to parametrized curves. Even cooler is Tangential Network #2, but no parameters there, either.)
This is my question on Geometry-Surface Area: Speak Louder.
Hope it's not too complicated. ;)
More problems:
Mechanics - Rotational Kinetic Energy
Calculus of Parametric Equations:
Second Derivative
Area
Arc Length
Surface Area
Volume
And this is the complete set of problems that I submitted for the 3rd party: My Problems
