Programming and gaming

Let's talk a bit about the modern world. Many people (including me) play lots of video and/or computer games. Do we appreciate the people who code them. We play them and give the games good reviews, but do we really take the time to think of all the hard work put into developing the game? The point I am trying to make here is that many game developers aren't given a lot of appreciation for their work. I have seen programmers looked down upon because it seems complicated, boring, or any other negative reason and others don't want to learn it. What I have found from the year I've been doing JavaScript and it is anything except boring. If you know a programmer in your life that does ANY sort of programming or even robotics, thank them for their hard work.

Being a game programmer and enthusiast myself, i can truly relate to this. But i definitely do my bit to make people understand the awesomeness of this field of work. I guess it becomes easier as i myself enjoy it immensely.

So true. Programmers are ridiculed for small things which they might have forgot to look upon or might be a bug, instead of being appreciated for the work they have done.

For instance- Check out this awesome game - MU Complex It is a fantastic game, besides being ridiculed for its DOS-like environment. (See the comments)

Another game which I find cool is this - Superfighters It is an unusually fascinating 2D shooter game which includes a Bullet-Time option, Molotov , various kinds of rifles and the Bazooka. It is still made fun of for its graphics which are pixelated.

I rather appreciate the way these were coded. Other interesting games include- Half-Life , Light Bot and Light Bot 2 , Limbo etc.

Also considering taking the time to learn the language, there are loads of languages... C#, JS, BOO, AS, GML to name a few. I have respect for developers who can produce a working game, I may not like the game for some reason but I will still have respect for its developers.

Yesterday I found a game on the App Store. It is called HyperSpace. It's a challenging fast paced game.

I am a programmer myself and thanks to you for this kind of post. I really appreciate it and you know being a coder is the best thing in life :) Its all about ideas and creating new things that cannot actually even exist in real life .

I enjoy it because it is like inventing something. You usually run into problems, but mostly fix them. Then there is the countless hours of testing :-P Speaking of inventing, I created an HTML program that can run JavaScript games. Now my websites aren't limited to HTML and Java.

completely agree ...............................not only games but the whole modern and SO CALLED DEVELOPED world runs on programming...........your tv is programmed ..your phone ,even watches are programmed . video games ---all the high end games take years and year of dedicated hard work. ....most of the time person sitting at the front end never even thinks bout the one sitting at the back end

Yeah, good point. The biggest example of unappreciation would be indie games. Some are even better than the games from the big name developers.

As a programmer myself, I usually find myself thinking about the programming that went into it. However, I am never curious of the names of the programmers. I don't know if that falls into appreciation, but I do understand that they are very unnoticed.

As a hard working programmer, you're probably employed to do so if you have that much time! Game developers are also appreaciated by having their creations sold!

Well yes they get sales, but do they get appreciation? No. You see on the app store there a apps that had a lot of downloads with lots of hate reviews
