Proofathon Wants You!

Hey guys, I hope that this does not sound spammy, but I'm hoping to create (with my friend Cody) some sort of online, proof-based olympiad math contest henceforth denoted as Proofathon. Clearly as this is just a thought going through my mind, I'm looking for people to contribute (ideas and problems). If you feel like you want to do this, you can either join this group or email me at [email protected].

I'm looking for people who want to help

  • arrange everything
  • come up with problems
  • give proof-based problem solving resources
  • contribute any ideas
  • show popular demand
  • publicize (after all of the above are finished)

and more. I sure hope this will be a successful venture!

  Easy Math Editor

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

I would also like to say that if you join the Proofathon staff, you automatically receive copies of many of Titu Andreescu's olympiad books including

  • Mathematical Olympiad Challenges
  • Mathematical Olympiad Treasures
  • Geometry Problems on Maxima and Minima
  • Old and New Inequalities

and a couple others.

You must be rich...

Hey Oscar,

That sounds like a lot of fun. As you get a better idea of how you would want a Proofathon to work, and what you would like it to entail, let us know if we can help in any way.

How is this contest going to be held? On Brilliant? AoPS? It's own website? Either way, I'm looking forward to this. I'm not really good at coming up with problems, but there are many, many problems out there (e.g. from books or olympiads) which you could use.

It'll be held in its own website. Are you looking to join the staff or just participate? If it's the former, please join the group. If it's the latter, like our infant of a Facebook page here.

What do you get to do if you are staff?

@Frodo Baggins You get to write problems, propose ideas about the contest itself, grade solutions, advertise, and organize overall.

Dear Cody, I just saw this. Late, sorry! :)

I want to be on the staff, but I do not have a facebook, and do not plan on getting one. How can I join the staff?

Sarvasva Raghuvanshi - 7 years, 5 months ago

It seems like this would be quite similar to USAMTS. What would the differences be?

Bob Krueger - 7 years, 10 months ago

A series of proof-based, Olympiad contests online, similar to the USAMO but much more frequent.
